The last time I did the math, parts came out to around 1800. Using generic parts instead of factory can drop that a tiny bit, maybe 1700. No idea on labor.

daniels right, at least $4K (I paid much more for mine). If I were you I would buy a used engine (1-1500$) and swap it out yourself. You will save SO much money on labor.

I just paid $4,200 for a rebuild and I brought the long block into the shop...... Parts around $1.5-2k and 10 hours labor. My price did inlcude about $700 for crank and flywheel lightening/balancing...
Bring the car to ther shop and its about 20 hours labor.....

Head gasket set 175, Lower seal kit 131, mains 139, rod bearings + nuts 85, flywheel bolts 18, hoses/pipe 275, water pump 259, belts & rollers 260-280, rings 140, intercooler and intake hoses 150, clutch if needed 700
and if you have to retreat the cylinder walls count on at least 250-400. Sound about right Sam..?

I'm just wrapping mine up. 86. Bone stock. Did all the wrenching myself. I'm at about $4K. This includes used block & crank ($600) machine work (block prep, head work, valve job, cross-drilled crank) = $1800, Headstuds (Raceware) = $250, Oil pan baffle ($250), Majestic turbo rebuild ($490), and about $1000 on waterpump, hoses, gaskets, bolts, etc...

It adds up REAL quick.

I'll post some pics of the entire rebuild in several weeks.

I just completed a race engine, the above parts prices are reasonable. Make sure to inspect the oil pump, if needed that's about $300-400.. Things adds up fast! Now you start modifying the block for track use, and things get very expensive.. Some engine builders quote $12000-15000 for a 951 engine. Race engines you can double it... Way too rich for me

I assume you are talking about a 2.8l big bore vs. stroker. In addition to the above you add for sleeving the block and for pistons... For a stroker (assuming you have a good block) you add a 3.0L crank and 2.8l pistons.. Probably $2500-3000 extra.. Now if you need to sleeve the stock block a 2.8l is a good choice. Of course, you'll have to think about a turbo, tuning etc...
$$$$ = power, how much power do you want.

well, speaking of pistons, one rennlister is taking the extra added cost for CAD drawings and getting a set of 101mm pistons set for the 87.8 stroke, so there will be an alternative in about 8 weeks from a vendor. I think everyone now knows there is an aftermarket supplier for 100.5 and 101mm turbo pistons, standard stroke.
