Cool Major cleaning (edit: HIGHLY Recommened)

The IC is out and sitting in the bathtub covered in soap and ready to be cleaned

I syaped water, and so much junk came out of it....including some bird feathers

I also cleaned some ground wires using sand paper, made them shine brown/bronze again.

I found the water temp sensor for the gauge wires to be green and corroded. Spend 15mins alone just returning them to bronze/brown again, same goes for the negative battery cable mounted on the car, and the headlight grounds on both sides (expecting grounds to be solved since everything else was cleaned).

Now, besides paint thinner and petrol, what else is strong enough to remove junk from the IC? im using a sponge and dishwashing soap. I don't want something too stronge and if anyone has any tips for 'while im in there' please let me know.

TIA!!!

Hey horsey, I am just about to take mine out, is it just the 4 nuts on the top you can see once the header panel is off that need to be undone?

Muriatic acid will clean that intercooler so well, you'll hardly be able to see anything.

The above post is a joke, made by a turkey. Do not use muriatic acid on aluminum. Thanks.

NZ951: Ok, the 4 screws on the panel need to be removed. Then pop up your headlights and you shall find two small 8mm nuts on each side that hold the panel, take those off (mine was a pain to remove since they were REALLY tight, WD-40 HELPS like mad).

Then, just slid off the panel. However, there are another set of 'hidden' screwed that were not one mine. There are also two plastic nuts (another pain) that hold the 'plastic flow' for the IC. Wiggling while pulling forward and lifting upwards removes the IC.

Here is a link to Lindsey Website with pics that helped out :http://www.lindseyracing.com/swap.htm Follow steps X to 12 to remove the IC

Special Tool: Hey, my finger nails are dirty, how to clean them ? i am also thinking of painting my seats and there is green stuff leaking from the front of my car, what is it? What are the materials of the IC pipes, lug nuts, wheels etc

The above statement was referred to the 'I cant take it anymore' post

But thanks anyway, i got it clean. dishwashing fluid and a sponge does good results too

Ok I think you misunderstood, are there only the 4 nuts holding the IC on? I already have the header panel off etc and deleted the plastic IC duct... I will look at Lindseys write up...

Ok, everything is installed and went for a test drive. Waited untill the oil reached opt. temp and floored it on second gear....

WOW!!!!.......boost hits HARD, at 3,500rpm (when i floored it) the rear wheels were slipping what a BIG difference!!! The thing is, i left the IC air duct out, as in i didn't install it back thinking i woul dget more air in??? any comments on that?

Anyway, i posted a thread here a few days back regarding a strange noise i get (BOV noise) while shifting....https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turbo-and-turbo-s-forum/158201-bov-sound-but-i-don-t-have-a-bov.html

The sound is gone, i went from 2nd gear all the way to 4th, hitting 190km/hr (~110-120mph or so) the car NEVER felt this quick, what a difference.

I HIGHLY recommend cleaning ths IC and IC pipes for EVERYONE!! such a difference, feels like a new turbocharger in there nice and smooth and reved faster (i think )

Even the temp gauge gave me better readings (not 'jumping' to third white when fans kicked in, stayed nice and cool just over 2nd white mark on boost in this heat!!!)

The duct directs the air though the IC if its not there some air will go around it rather then through it

I clean my IC every year ... I use aluminum (wheel) cleaner on outside and industrial soap on innside ...

Not to forget the rest of the engine bay... keeping a cleen engine makes it easier for diagnostic and maintenance..

It`s a pain. Mine is actually broke ... this ofcourse makes it alot easier....

anyone tried to heat the duct using heat-pistol!! ?
Would this make it more flexible?

After the cooling air comes in through the front intake and then goes through the duct and intercooler heat exchanger, where does it go then? In other words, where does the cooling air exhaust?
