Default Question about muffler on new car...

I just got the $5.5k 951 home from Kentucky and the throttlw response is lacking and doesn't have a whole lot of punch for a car with chips, LBE, LBPV, etc...
I know the turbo is spooling up and sounds just as my old 86 did when it ran perfectly but as I pass the 1bar mark and the turbo has spooled up the wastegate is howling at me until I back off the loud pedal, obviously its shot.
I noticed the previous owner put another muffler on the car and it appears to be chambered, I can only see in through the tip about 2 or 3 inches before the forst baffle, I think this muffler may be adversely affecting the backflow and throttle response, am I right? Shouldn't it be more of a straight through muffler on there?
I may just go by a muffler shop this week and have them put a straight through muffler on depending on what you guys say.

Straight thru is the best for a turbo car

Thats what I thought, I am considering having a local guy make a complete system, downpipe and all, and I will definitely yank that off.

Are the mufflers that come with the SFR or Lindsey systems have chambers in them like this POS?

What are some of the mufflers people araound here use when they have a shop make a 3" exhaust for the car? Something like the Borla XR1 like SFr uses.

I have 1 of the early SFR units, Tim was using the Bullet brand at that time, Borla XR-1 is most likley the best option.

Cool, thanks for the advice.
Can you recommend a wastegate for the car? My shop that wants to do the exhaust work has a 35 or 38 mm Tial on their shelf from a motorcycle turbo project I could probably get a good price on but I have no idea how much they are new. I was planning on buying one of guru's WG's until this came up today.

I use a 35mm HP Tial with a 1 bar spring.

Tials with bolt on adapters sell for around $300-320

35,38 or 46mm will all work for our cars

Tials are good (according to people) biut Lindsey has one ($$$) so does Guru Racing (cheap rebuild units with stiffer springs).

But Tials are the way to go........

Currently I think its bleeding off by the time my gauge passes the 1bar mark when under full throttle, and its loud as hell.

The guy from a local shop agrees it must be vented atmospherically, but when on full throttle and it spools up its a very loud WAAAAHHHH noise coming from under the car, its loud.

just curious is this the red 951 that was in autotrader with tinted windows and "stainless exhaust" in autotrader a while back? i was about to go down there and look at it. i talked to the guy and he said it had lsd, but when he took a picture of the option codes, 220 was missing.

i don't think the muffler is gonna make a huge difference in power imho.

I don't think this one is that car, no tinted windows and the guy was pretty sure it didn't have LSD.
