Default wastegate?

I have read alot about how the stock wastegate leaks off valuable exhaust energy and decided to upgrade to a different one. Since i just started school i am wondering what wastegate is a cheap and effective upgrade?

Rebuilt, or an aftermarket Tial.

Get a Tial, But be aware thet it wont totally stop the boost roll off. Some guys are lucky and can hold boost. Some cant. I noticed very little difference between a shimmed WG and the Tial. I'm still glad I bought the tial, but I still bleed down to 13 psi at redline with the stock turbo and an MBC.

I take it you have a 26/6 then?

I have the 26/8 and can hold about 15psi at full chat. 18psi up to about 5-5.5k

If you are trying to save every penny, the Deltagate is is cheap and can be rebuilt with readily available replacement parts. I've been running mine for 4 or 5 years at many different power levels. I can hold 22 psi to redline (probably more, but never had the nerve to try).

If you are looking to save money, if the wastegate isn't broken, don't change it. It depends what you have done to the car at this point as to what the best improvement for your $ would be. Chip etc. would probably be the best first step.

I understand where Marc is coming from. A new wastegate isn't a magic pill to turn an otherwise stock car into a monster. Once you enter the modification arena, a new wastegate allows you better control of the boost. At least that was my experience.

I'll second the recommendation to check with rennlister MySwiss. I bought mine from him and I'm very happy with it.

Guru Racing also have a WG generation 3 coming out soon, garunteed to hold boost to red line (if your turbo can make it )

Some are already happy with the curent WG and can hold 18+ boost to redline with it.......

If the car is chipped (10 + years old - on original WG) then you shim the wastegate what happens?

It compresses the wastegate spring, effectively raising the spring rate so it requires more pressure (boost) to open.
