Default Does anybody do a Reasonably Priced 3" Stainless Testpipe?

$500 for a piece of bent stainless pipe seems a bit excessive, despite them being a very pretty pipework. I have used pipebending equipment before and so long as you have a good mandril bending machine and honest Jig these should not take that much time to make.
Is there anybody out there being a bit more realistic on price???

Yeah, I second that. The only one that would be reasonably priced would be the aluminized steel one from Lindsey. They will not sell just the test pipe section for some strange reason. One would imagine that they would want the business, but maybe not . . .

I think it is basic supply and demand, just not enough demand for a company to tool up and make 100,000 units to bring the price down. IMHO

I know what you are saying David but you can get a complete Stainless Exhaust for an XKE Jag for $500.00 that is just an example.
I bet if we had a sample we could get them made in Far East, Malaysia or somewhere.
They now have very tight quality control and are desperate for $$$$£££
As you can tell I am reasonably new to Rennlist, i have driven Porsche for over 10 yrs and have been tuning cars for probably 20 yrs, mainly for Historic Racing (Lotus Jag Aston Martin etc) But as far as Turbo's go this is quite a new game to me. Had my 951 now for 2yrs but it never ceases to amaze me the prices of some items. Although taken on balance most parts are reasonably priced compared to some cars I have ($1200 per shock absorber for Lambo) And the supply knowledge is excellent
To be fair if anybody wanted to invest in having 250 test pipes made the cost price could come down to about $75-100 per unit in Stainless. If you are going to make 10,000 it would more likely be material cost + 15 - 20% but you would never sell them if you lived from now to eternity!
I imagine that these pipes are virtually hand made to order (maybe a couple in stock) and therefore the suppliers are having to tool up and then tool down therefore the cost.
If we could get a decent pre order together it may give the suppliers a stronger bargaining hand for discount and as long as this was passed onwards it would be a good deal for all.
Maybe if we could see who wants what and then put the order out to tender????
Just an idea!!

I know what you mean, I built a 3" cat back pipe (or cat bypass in my case) using 3" aluminized U bends for about $35-40. $250 for some of these things is REDICULOUS. And come to find out my exhaust guy went out of buisness. He did GREAT work! now I'm left with Midas?????

I think 500 is reasonable for say what fabspeed offers. Of course you can produce it once for yourself cheaper, but you are not trying to make a living off of it.

So 500 is reasonable for the fabspeed testpipe, but not the SFR . .

SFR purchases the Fab Speed unit. I tried to coordinate a group buy back in May and was unable to. The two problems were:
1. I was unable to generate enough interest.
2. Tim was unable to get the units in stock. (Joe at Fabspeed was currently out of them...)

Interestingly Tim had concluded that this was not a component that he could cost effectively produce in house when compared to reselling the Fabspeed unit.

Weird, the SFR cat back looks different (with a round muffler) than the fabspeed (oval muffler).

Is it worth us trying to get a GB at Fabspeed then. I am sure we can put a bigger order in than a supplier is willing to place for stock???

Sorry, I meant the Cat by pass / test pipe. NOT the cat back section. Look at old group buys for the cat back section and you will note that Tim does manufacture a great unit and will offer it non-polished.

I have one and love it. When I first put it on I thought maybe I had made a mistake, but the sound really mellowed nicely after a couple of tanks of gas. I love it now.

Just a note, Joe at Fabspeed has been removed from this site in the past. I have not bought anything from them and I dont know if I would want to knowing that. You can search or you can PM/email John D and ask him. I dont know for sure but I have my doubts he would allow a GB with Fabspeed.

Tommo have you considered the stainless steel cat delete pipe offered by www.essentialstyling.com here in the UK for 250 GBP. Several 951 owners in the PCGB have this and rate it

I am looking desperately for a test pipe as well. My buddies Twin Turbo Z is 200 for stainless test pipes and there are two of them. My other friends 240 with an SR's test pipe was like $150 full stainless 3". It is rediculious, I tried to get a local guy to do and he wants $350. I wish there was a lower price alternative.
