Question delete Idle Control Valve

I think I remember reading posts about deleting the ICV, but I did a search and didn't find anything about deleting them. Did I just make up that it's ok to delete it, or is it possible? Mine is shot I think, and I'd like to ditch it completely if possible. Anyone done this? Anyone know on which thread I can read about this?

I wouldn't do that if you live in NY, you're gonna have one hell of a time starting your car in the winter. I removed mine about a month ago and I'm gonna put it back in. I'm just sick and tired of having to hold open the throttle to start the thing, and also having to hold it open for 30sec to a full minute for the engine to warm up before I can take off. At first I thought I could deal with it, but I really miss the convenience of just hopping into the car, cranking it over and having it start on the first revolution, then taking off immediately.

on a somewhat related but possibly OT note (i could start a new thread if this bothers anyone), my idle seems to drop about 100-200 rpm when i re-enable the idle stabilizer. so i'll disable it to adjust the idle, put it to around eg 1000rpm, and when i re-enable the stabilizer, it drops to around 800...what gives?

That should happen. The amount of air that enters the system should be roughly 80& and another 20% taken from the idle stabilizer. When you adjusted the idle at 1,000rpm (when the idle stabilizer was not enables) and then enables the idle stabilizer, the rpm drops to 800, that is what is supposed to happen.

What i meant to say is that you adjusted 1,000 rpm with 100% air flow in the system. Once you enables the idle stablizer, it took roughly 20% of air, thus dropping the rpm to 800.

Looking at the way the ISV is plumbed into the intake, I do not see how it could ever decrease air flow. It can add flow as it opens but I don't see how it could decrease air flow.

when you disable it it does not close, it goes to a half-way position, so even with the contacts bridged there is air flowing through the valve.

I ran without one for about a year, and have put mine back on. The big problem I had was that I had to adjust the idle high to keep the engine from dying coming off throttle or when the AC came on. It was supposed to be easier/simpler, but just didn't work out that way for me.

Default Butterfly Hole

When you removed the ICV, did anyone drill a hole in the butterfly to compensate for the ICV being removed? I would think that would help with the idle, and work until the AC compressor kicked in when you're at a stop light.

I have zero idle problems with mine removed. It idles around 900 now.

"When you removed the ICV, did anyone drill a hole in the butterfly to compensate for the ICV being removed? "

Huh??? You just uncrew the throttle-bypass (idle-screw) more.

"my idle seems to drop about 100-200 rpm when i re-enable the idle stabilizer. so i'll disable it to adjust the idle, put it to around eg 1000rpm, and when i re-enable the stabilizer, it drops to around 800..."

Don't disable the idle-stabilzer. With the car idling, unscrew the idle-adjuster about 1 full turn. No more dropping & recovering idle.

not sure if there's a misunderstanding here or not...i haven't disabled it permanently, i just meant it's disabled while i'm adjusting the idle.

Let me clarify -
For those that have totally removed their ICV and the associated plumbing that would route air around the butterfly to control the idle, did they also drill a small hole in the butterfly to 'leak' air into the plenum to allow the engine to idle? This small hole would be doing the equivalent work of the ICV regulating air into the plenum.
