Getting ready to install the TT bearings and driveshaft. Was thinking about using KY jelly as it's a water based lube and doesn't harm rubber. Plus I imagine it will sort of dry up which will help keep the bearing carriers in place in the tube. I watched a really good vid of someone doing the install with the Super bearings and honestly it looked like he used KY that was supplied by the Super bearing guys.
I'm not sure Silicone is going to going to be the best choice as it will stay slippery for ever. I think that might give the bearing carriers a chance to slip inside the tube.
I measured the bearing locations and this is what I came up with. I'm pretty sure this TT has been rebuilt once before and its possible that they installed the bearings not in the correct locations. These dimensions also look different than what I can find on line in one picture. Does the factory manual state the locations? All dimensions shown in inches.
Just incase someone wants to try this lube for their TT rebuild.
This stuff is amazing. It was very slippery and once is sets for some time the lube goes away and the bearing carriers will stay in place. Not saying its the best thing but if worked very well for me. But it is kinda expensive and comes in tiny amounts. I purchased 2 tubes and it was enough.
