So a few weeks ago I started hearing a clicking noise coming from the pass. side rear of my 951... well i parked the car for a few days due to weather, and when i took it back out, didn't notice the clicking noise anymore... well of course it's back after a few more days... i looked at the cv boots, and they look crack free... the clicking is rpm based, or so it seems, low rpms it's more of a slow clunk, then as i move up the band it increases speed sounding like a click... it's probably one of those, have to hear it things, but it's worth a shot seeing if anyone has had a similiar problem...

Most likely a CV joint. Try removing the axles, regreasing the joints and putting the axles back on with the inboard joint turned to the outboard.

Could also be one of the brake pads being a little loose in the caliper. If so it should temporarily go away while braking.
The calipers are on the back end of the discs and when a pad is loose the disc will grab it, lift it and let it go due to natural slight shimmy of the disc.
If this is the cause then slightly bending the butterfly retaining spring should help.

i had a clicking noise coming from the back end of my car. it was the parking brake making the noise, and with a quick adjustment it stopped making the noise.

thanks for the help guys... I'm probably going to tear into it on sunday, my day off... Is there any tell tale signs it's a cv joint that needs regreasing???

Noise form the CV joints is typically load dependent.
A way to (redistribute the) grease in the CV joints is grabbing the free floating shaft and move it axially back and forth.
I believe that the left-right half-shafts also can be switched, loading the opposite side of the race instead.

i had a similar sound. pulled off the halfshafts, removed the CV joints, cleaned and repacked em, no noise since then. this question gets asked at least once a week
