Have you pulled the vacuum line off the bypass at idle to see if the vacuum line is sucking well? (Not being a pest, just hard to believe the BOV cannot bleed off 1 bar).

By the way, there was a significant difference between the levels of surge experienced and the BOV used. If either was suitable for my application, then there should have been no difference...

That is actually the factory spec I believe. Sounds ok there.

I wonder if your turbo just tolerates less surge pressure than others before it starts to gobble. Have you talked to anyone else with that turbo about this?

Hey HZ,
I can understand if it gobbles a
little on the onset of boost cause
the 60-1 is a big compressor.
By the way, are you very sure
that you've got a Stage III turbine ?
Got any dimensions ?
One again hold on to your money.
Think again. On onset of boost it
already gobbles a little. So what
has it got to do with the BOV ?
Songzzz is running a small BOV
with the 60-1 without any problems.
Your problem in'st there NZ.
Look again.

I have taken all the measurements and measured them against the turbonetics book, it is a stage 3 wheel and 60-1 HIFI. It cant be anything else can it?

mwc951, I assumed you read the post, yet you still submitted a reply, you are odd.

BTW, NZ951 with all your constant new mods you need a digi cam!
A small video clip with sound of the surge would be perfect at this time.

I hear ya! I could just use my laptop and take a wav file off there. I really do need a digi cam though. I am buying a house soon so I have to somewhat pretend like I have to save cash (car excluded from the saving equation). The bay is starting to look a treat... once I have satisfied, I am going to prepare a compliation video with some 1/4 mile runs and a track event for the PCNZ. Should be fun! Then you can hear the plane take off (referring to the 60-1).

Re-reading the posts, I am unclear on when it gobbles. Does it gobble when you have your foot on the gas or just when you shift? Bad BOV's gobble when you shift or stab the clutch and let off.

Yup, only gobbles on a shift, if I built boost and then took my foot off, but did not change gear but let the load ease, it would not gobble. No gobble at all when my foot is on the gas. The sound is like a plane as it spools though . Is that clearer?

Yes, that's clearer (and fun). I just dunno. The valve is oriented correctly? -- with the top side plumbed to the intercooler pipe, and the outlet plumbed to the inlet side of the turbo. Maybe you all just have really thick air down there.

I have it plumbed to atm.... hence BOV. Glad you had fun by the way, I try to keep things relaxed and fun where possible. I actually change the orientation of the BOV to see if that made a difference. Lindsey Racings site is very confusing about the orientation of it as it varies between pictures! I know there are threads on it, but it is the way they suggested. I can see the side of the valve where it goes to atm. I guess they the bottom side in the IC, where the top is the vac fitting end...
