Default Broken Exterior and Interior Driver Side Door Handles

Need To Remove Door Panel. Both driver side door handles on my 1991 944S2 are broken and door is shut. Trying to figure how I may open the door or remove door panel without completely destroying it. If anyone has tackled this issue, please share any information regarding your results. I could take it to a repair shop but normally I do most repairs on my car. If no one has any ideals regarding this endeavor perhaps you could share with me where I may find a driver side door panel,

First question

Are you saying you can’t get inside the car?

If not go in through the trunk.

Inner handle not working?

Unscrew all visible screws on the inner door panel.

Use a proper grommet tool to pop out some of the grommets at the rear of the door panel

You should be able to see and reach the bars attached to the handle to release the latch.

There are little plastic clips inside that have probably become brittle and broken inside not allowing the handles to unlatch the door.

I have removed a few doors before.

Here are pics from a couple of my cars

If you are still having trouble I will climb up on my other car and snap or film for you how to do

it tomorrow 👍

Default Door Handles

I can enter the vehicle from the passenger side, although I can not access all of the screws and clips attached to the door. I'll gladly appreciate any visuals you have. Thanks.

Here are pics of the latch mechanism

more pics coming.

The round holes in the bottom pic are where clips pop into

The long rod in the foreground that run to the back latch is what you will pull on when you remove the door handle latch.

A small philips screw holds the handle in. You won’t see it unless you pull the handle back.

The four clips you see in the pics need to be pop

If you pop out those four clips carefully with a proper took you should be able to reach in and grab the rod to pull it forward towards the front of the car

That action will release the latch

Rod is the cable with the fish hook piece

If the cable is not broken you can pull on the hook once the inner door handle is removed.

If the cable is snapped you can reach in with the clips popped out at the back of the panel and feel for a part of the assembly to pull up on to release the latch mechanism

.

I hope that help picture things for you.

I would prefer not to pull my door off the shelf as they are a little bit awkward to lift down from the shelf 😎

Default Door Panel Removal

Very good instructions and pictures. I have replaced a door handle on one of my older 944. My quest at this time is how to remove the door panel while the door is closed. Can't open the door because both handles are broken. Just wondering if there is a way to remove the panel then be able to reuse it. Anyone who has some ideals I thankfully welcome them,
