Default Removal of plastic covering blower motor

After getting the car out of winter stoarge I noticed that the air coming from the vents smelled pretty bad.

I opened the hood and tried to get the plastic cover off thats covering the blower motor. I could lift it up and see the motor but couldn't get it completely out of the car. It seems to be glued to the bottom of the windshield.

Anyway...I put my hand behind the motor and there was some water and leaves back there. I want remove this cover so I can get the blower out and get to the cause of the stink.

I don't like smelling urine (thats what it smells like) everytime I defrost or vent air into the car. It could be urine for all I know. I could tell there was some critters living in the engine compartment over the winter because of the acorns shells everywhere.

Does anyone have instructions for removing the plastic and blower? I checked clarks but found nothing.

Thanks!

The plastic is stuck to the base of the windscreen, I carefully worked it off and then later restuck it with some double sided tape. on my car there was loads of leaves and stuff that could be removed once the plastic was out of the way.

Getting the blower out was fairly easy IIRC there is a series of bolts spaced around it. A couple of electrical connectors and then I removed the end grills to lever it up. It has a kind of mastic seal at the bottom to stop water getting into the car.

Might not be neccesary to take the blower out though, try running the AC on full heat to kill any bacteria and check the drain hole (Below the radio on UK cars).

I tried to get th plactic off but on further inspection I noticed that most of the leaves were close to the grill ends. I stuck a small vacuum attachment in there and sucked all of it up. Whatever was out of reach I used a screwdriver to push it into my vacuum hose.

All of it is out now and hopefully no more stink

thanks

Did you try it?

Some people get mold in their ac system. You need to get a special aerosol treatment to deal with it, I think Chrysler sells a good one.

Anybody know if there are replacements for those cracked plastic covers? I removed mine and was going to make my own. But, I decided against it and put the plastic cover back on...all taped up of course.

The aerosol is called Frigi-Fresh. I bought a can at my Ford dealer for about $8 and used it on my Explorer one spring, two years ago. To apply, turn the AC on normal operation (fresh air, medium speed, not recirculate), and spray aerosol into AC air intake at base of windshield. Do this for ten seconds, then turn off car and let sit for at least 30 minutes. Works great for moldy smells. But if a critter has curled up and died somewhere, you'll need more than Frigi-Fresh...

brad - not sure, but i'm wondering if the original part number is one, and the 968 part is another. i believe the 968 one fits as well, and i think that some may consider it an upgrade.
