Probably should fit one, no amount of static balancing will counteract torsional vibration and a harmonic dampener will definitely help with that on a big 4-cylinder.

The engine done by Lindsey had .003 bore to piston clearance with ring gaps of .021 top and .022 second rings all had had end contact on inspection. NO WONDER BORE 3 broke the cylinder wall. The current block has .0045 piston to bore with.024 top ring clearance.026 second ring.

I would definitely look at getting at least a new dampener if not an upgraded aftermarket version. I had an engine self destruct which also had a knife edged crank by LR. That motor didn't have a dampener and it was suspected that crank whip and harmonics killed it. After all you've been through it would be a wise investment.

AFAIK the only standard dampener that would work is from the 944 S2. When I bought a S2 crank the vendor included it FOC, now I see some sellers wanting good money for the dampener on it's own. Though I think it can be rebuilt.

I'm On a quest to find a dampner the last thing I need is a broke crank to ruin a nice block.
any info would be helpful. This is not a race motor but I will drive it hard.
Will I need to rebalance even if it is neutral,Yes?
