What is a 944 turbo"Club Sport"?
I have an Escort Endurance car and I know about the Turbo Cup cars,
both built for racing. But I have on occasion heard people refer to
a Club Sport. Was that a special street version of a Cup Car.
Or are Escort / Turbo cup cars the same as a Club Sport????
Can someone clear this up?

My understanding is that there is no such thing as a 944 Turbo Club Sport. Porsche did manufacture a 968 Club Sport - basically a stripped down and lightened version of the 968 that was never sold in North America. It was priced below the cost of a normal 968 and was a last ditch effort by Porsche to raise the number of sales of the 968. There was a thread about it last year at some point.

A Porsche Mechanic once refered to my car as a Club Sport...
I didn't know what he ment. It may be just a wrong term?
Just because a guy can turn a wrench doesn't meen they are
the athority on all Porsches....Allhough I have found many Porsche
Mechanics like to think they know it ALL!

There definately IS a 944 turbo Club Sport. I saw one up close, it's been 15 years though. Very rare lightweight 944 turbo. The one I saw and the one I saw pics of were both white.

I haven't heard of a 944 Turbo Club Sport (but I'd really like to know the details if there was one). There was an S2 Club Sport available in mainland Europe. I don't know the spec, but it had this graphic:
The 968 ClubSport was an attempt to increase sales - not so last ditch though as it ran for most of production - and it was very well received in Euope. The spec was:
Manual unheated mirrors
Manual windows (with 944 style door trims rather than 968 style)
No air-con / automatic temp control
No rear seat
No power locking
Cable-operated hatch release with no external means of opening
No rear wiper
No engine covers under hood
17" Cup wheels painted body colour (except on black cars)
20mm lowered ride height
Lightweight carpet
GRP shell fixed bucket seats in body colour with black cloth
'ClubSport' graphic along door bottoms
No sunroof
Reduced wiring loom and smaller battery (unless a/c was added as an option)
No lid (armrest) on centre console cubby
944 style cubby under radio and digital clock (no analogue clock and outside temp readout in other words)
All interiors were black and outside they were available in GP white, Guards red, black , Speed yellow and Martitme blue (replaced by Riviera blue in '94). Everything deleted could be added as an option if required. There was also a Matter half rollcage option and M030 sport kit with cross-drilled discs as well as adjustable suspension and thicker anti-roll (sway) bars.
I have begun a programme of converting my 951 to most of this spec and have so far removed all the seats and all the elctrics from the doors / hatch area, plus associated wiring from the loom. I am trying to source lighweight carpet. I intend to used the Leda suspension kit rather than the ClubSport M030 however, as it is both cheaper and more easily adjustable.
Because of the work I'm doing to my 951 it is no longer eligible for the race class it is best suited for if I decide to compete with it in sprints locally to me in the UK - I need to add a rear seat and possibly electric windows. I would really like to know about a Turbo Club Sport then because if it can be proven to exist I can get around adding those things.

There was a 1991 porsche 944 S2 Club Sport brought into the US for racing but Porsche only made a few. Offically it doesn't show up in sales brochures and general production tables.

I don't know whether there was ever a "turbo club sport", but there absolutely is a 944 S2 club sport. Geoffrey Ring of the 930 forum drives one and I have seen his car which bears a "club sport" fender graphic.
I think that essentially, the car is a turbo without the turbocharger; but with a 3 liter engine, 208 h.p. Nice car.

Putting a "club sport" sticker on a standard S2 doesn't make it a real "club sport".
I think the racing S2's that you guys are thinking about were the ESCORT CUP S2's. I don't think they were ever labeled as "club sport" from the factory. I would love for someone to prove me wrong with a sales slip or option code.

Rich, on a side note... how is the 1:18 model petition going so far? I'm anxious to get one as soon as they're available and signed long ago to try to get them!

Also, if the "Club Sport" sticker has a 944.x.x.x part number, that doesn't mean it came on a 944 as opposed to a 968. The 968 aero mirror bases have 944 part numbers as do the 968 door handles. yet we all know that no 944 came from the factory with these 968 parts.
but I digress.
Kevin, PMA (Minichamps.de) is shipping it's 1:18 scale 924S right now, should be available soon. I think they are getting the tooling for 944's once the 924 production run is done.

You guys may doubt me because it may not be printed anywhere, but the guy who bought one knows his porsches, drove on track, and bought this 944 turbo CS because of it's rarity. If there was some dire need to furnish proof, I'd look him up at his retirement location and interview him or get pics of his FACTORY 944 Turbo Club Sport. He was able to get this rare model because he was a VERY regular customer, buying a new Porsche every year.
