What to coat it in? Not sure of the benefits of ceramic here, not many seem to do it...

There is next to no advantage to coating it with something if you want to keep it cool, or prevent heat soak, etc. Anything you do to it is purely cosmetic. I'm would powdercoat, anodize it or polish it.

Just curious: How old are you? Are you being paid by the post?

I disagree. Most of the heat that gets to the manifold is heat released from the exhaust manifold and turbo hot housing. If ceramic coating helps keep heat in an exhaust header, then why wont it help keep heat out of an intake manifold?

Thats what I was thinking Boosty!

I am 27, I am a Masters student, get money for that, and work full time as a process analyst for a manufacturing organisation, and get a salary from them.

I am going to have it coloured black no matter what I do, hence no polish. I am sick of a grubby looking intake. I am working on getting most everything black, or polished ally (IC pipes/intake pipe/catch can), or blue. I dont think our intakes look very good polished.

One thing also on boost the compressed air is heated, while at the same time cooled after leaving intercooler. You have hot air in the intake manifold so my thinking would be to disapate that hot air not keep it in there with ceramic coating. On the exhaust side ceramic coating is fine, and cross-over pipe down pipe. You can buy some kind of bonnet for the turbine side to keep the heat out of the engine bay as much as possible.

Hey NZ,
Either wrap or ceramic coat the turbine
housing. Heat soak btw does not only
come from the turbine housing. You
guys are forgetting that lots of heat is
actually transfered from the head to the
intake.

For a track car, with sustained boost, I can see how the Intake manifold could become heat soaked from boost. But on a street car, you are never on boost long enough for this to happen, and the primary heat soak bandit is the other parts of the engine radiating heat. I think its a bad idea for a track car, but a good one for a street car.

David, the Jet hot sterling looks like a nice product. How much do they charge to do the intake and the pipes?

$200 almost 2 years ago. I just had my new Vitesse turbo turbine housing coated in Jet Hot 2000 black $75

Ski also uses Jet Hot Sterling with great results, he actually has some before and after temps.

Are you torquing to the right units? In/lb, Ft/lb, and N/m are quite different.
