Default tranny removal help...

I have an '86 951 parts car that I bought for the LSD tranny. Last night, I finally got around to working on the tranny removal, and everything went along fine except that I can't get the darned coupling sleeve loose. The bolts holding the sleeve are out, and nothing looks wrong or different, but I have had very little luck in moving it in either direction. I have removed all the other tranny mount bolts and figured I could lower it on my tranny jack and get it to release/come apart, but its holding fast.

Its supposed to slide towards the transaxle and release on the torque tube side, right? Any suggestions, short of taking a sawzall to it?

Regards,

Mine was a little stubborn, so I used a large screwdriver to gain some leverage and the coupling slid forward.

Hope that helps,

You can spray the splines with PB Blaster or Kroil as well, and tap on it with a hammer, before the large screwdriver prybar technique.

Good idea, but I am not saying put the gorilla strength to, just a small bit a pressure is all it took for me.

I'm with david, getting mine out took a conservative amount of force on that coupler along with some PB Blast........

IIRC, you're better off keeping the tranny bolted to the housing - otherwise all the weight is hanging on that coupler and it ain't going to come apart. Should come off "fairly" easily then. I was lucky enough to be able to pull it back by hand, others have required more ... persuasion.

I tried both bolted together and then disconnected it after I had no luck... thanks for the suggestions, I will hose it down with PB first and go from there.

I would keep at least 2 of the 4 main bolts in while you try this, just to take a little bit of the stress of the input shaft.....

When taking out the transmission that coupler is normally the 2nd thing I disconnect.....
