Mike:
I'd love some help from someone who knows how to do it.
please email me at dmorris@metaloft.com.
(for some reason there's no PM icon for you)
I'm probably gonna try it this weekend.
Anyone know where to rent a cherry picker?

In other news:
I finally have some good news!
The turbo isnt totally wrecked and may still be usable!
I don't know how because the exhaust port on the head has been chipped away badly, but somehow the turbo blades look fine.

There's the one little chip on one blade, but its tiny.
Does that matter?
What do you guys think?

edit: removed massive turbo pic

I'd get it rebuilt. Remember, that's the exhaust side of the turbine, there could be more damage inside, where the exhaust passes into the turbine.

With the contaminated oil, I'd also make sure that they check/replace the turbo bearings and clean it thoroughly.

Dal.

Used piston for sale.
Some assembly required.

Dirk,
I feel your pain. Sorry to hear about the engine. Hopefully you will be up in running in no time.

Its alright.
I picked up a $750 90k mile long block from a friend at a junkyard.
It was one of these you-never-know-what-youre-gonna-get engines.
It turned out to be in great shape.

So I'm just taking my time with the rebuild and figuring out what I do and don't want to do.

What a steal! I would for sure have the rod bearings and belts on that list, sense it would be much easier to change them while the engine is out of the car. Good luck and post some pictures!
