...well the loan I took out wasn't specified as a car loan. I have a loan for cash that's helping me purchase the car. They don't ask what it's for.

I have a 87 944 Turbo and I rated it up when I responed earlier in the thread to see if the turbo model was in the software. I used a 500,000 liability limit and came up with a figure of nearly a 1000 bucks for 6 months. I am a clean driver at least on paper and am in my late thirties. This is in California which has high insurance rates compared to most states. Progressive will write young drivers, drivers with DUI's and other nasty violations but they will surcharge heavily. I would check the website of the insurance department in your state and see if they have a comparitive rater to determine which companies are the most competitive in your area and then go shopping.

As far as car loans are concerned, you can get lower interest rates with secured lines of credit meaning you make the bank the lean holder on the car. Lines of credit on new cars are less then used cars. I currenty have a loan on a newer vehcile with a rate under 7%. I bet your open line of credit has a much higher rate.

Richard

Good Luck!

I'm told of an insurance company Called Wawanesa. My family and I are actually switching over to them from mercury. I'm told (by a good body shop guy) that they dont even come out to view estimates, they just aprrove what they get faxed. (aka not stingy) Their much cheaper. Their customer service is questionable, but we did get a bad apple on the phone. You can't have more then 1 point (Ca.) on your record to join though.

Richard thanks for the info... I actually got a loan a better way than any bank offer could match by far. It isn't a car loan, and it is legit, but my plan is absolutely inredible for paying it off

As for the insurance... I think I also have a pretty good company with decent rates based on my history (I think I did more stupid **** in one year than I will ever do in my entire life... long story). My question is really on whether or not the Turbo is actually in the system or not, and how it is listed in Progressive's database if it is... aaaand how different the rates are for it.

Thank you for the info, I might consider shopping around for insurance again, however.

Hey there Eyal. Wawa in SoCal will DROP you like a steaming potato the first time you even get NEAR an at-fault accident. Thats why thier rates are so low, and they pay thier claims so quickly. Beware.

Is that worth my money or will it do nothing if I have to claim something later on.
1986 Porsche 944 Turbo Liability Rate $41.5
Coverage Information Comp and Collision Rate $140
Agreed Value $10000 modified Deductible Rate $Not Applicable
Bodily Injury $0 rate: $Not Applicable Property Damage $0 rate: $Not Applicable
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist $0 rate: $Not Applicable Med $0 rate: $Not Applicable
Tax $0
Liability $100000 with Comp and Collision Total Rate(This Vehicle) $181.5 Per Year
Deductible $0

////So you have 100,000 dollars for liability? Average non-death judgment (at fault, you go to court because you hit somebody - they have sued you) in 2001 was 347,000. Death claims averaged 953,000. That was 3 years ago. Whats 100k going to do? Give you a down payment on your bankruptcy?

PLease people - look past the premiums and into the coverages. Insurance is not about what YOU pay, its about what your company will pay when you screw up or make a simple mistake.

Okay, I'm done.

I currenty really can't afford anything much more. I'm out of a job and times are hard. Right now I have even worst coverage I only have what the state says I need to have which is pretty crappy. I'm wonder if I get that coverage plus keep what I have now which is only liability would my car be covered if say someone runs into it in the parking lot and leaves? I may up that to 300,000 liability if the 10,000 amount works for repairs if I cause an accident or someone hits me on a parking lot and leaves. I'm going to call them up in a few days but would like to know as much as possible before I start talking to them.

Stay Far Away from GEICO. In the event of accident they will take your car for little or nothing unless you are prepared tp fight. Sorry for the high jack
