Default Progressive insurance question

Hey all,

I've talked to my local Progressive rep as well as a certified national rep about adding an '87 951 to my current plan. Apparently, neither "944 Turbo" nor "951" are in their database. The two choices to choose from are 944 and 944S. Does anyone have Progressive insurance, and if so, what did you list your car as? In the small chance that something DOES happen to the car, I don't want to have paid all this money for the car AND insurance to have it voided by such a simple misnomer as having it listed incorrectly.

Thanks for all your help, everyone.. a week from Sunday, I will be posting pictures of myself and the new Porsche and our innaugural thousand mile road trip to my school.

Hmm how much is full coverage I only have the state says I need to have. Don't have money to spend but how much are you guys paying? I don't think it matters whenever I get a quote they always says "944" I then say "NO 944 Turbo" then the person says it's the same thing under our coverage.

yeah, thats what i was told... my quote was $996/ 6 months on top of what i have.... but what i'm going to do it have it as liability except when i drive it on a reg. basis... aka, longer than 1 day, lol. so when i'm home from school on any breaks, i switch over to full coverage.

oh yeah, here's my reason why... liability is only $203/ 6 mo.

so my estimated insurance cost doing this should be ~$1000 a year for it.

I represent Progressive. I personally do not do any personal lines but I rated mine and the turbo is a sub-classified under 944. When you select 944 in the Progressive Pro-Rater software the 944 Turbo is one of two options available. My 944 Turbo is written with State Farm. Progressive was more expensive.

Good Luck!

Nope, I'm actually 20, turning 21 in November myself... I'm under my own plan AND I have a "tarnished" record... well tarnished actually

this was for a 944 however...

hey, rcatherton, how did both Progressive agents not find this in the system then?? I'm confused. Also, what difference in price can i expect?? I'm getting a little worried now if they quoted me these numbers, but will give me a worse price when I do get the car next week.

Kevin-
Unless the car is fully paid for, I think you are required to carry full insurance (at least in NY). Anybody in your family insured through USAA, I hear they are really cheap.

Dude how the hell is it so low I'm F*&#*ng pissed off just did a quote online says 1014$ for 6 months and that's for the state limit and 1760$ for 1000$ deductible for comprehensive and 500$ deductible for collision. This is just a bunch of crap man for keeping a clean recorded and all.

Kevin sorry for high-jacking your thread. Wonder that would be the best deal for both of us if anyone knows about that type of insurance.

what time periodis that for... i presume monthly?!

Sterm... I believe it's ok to have liability if the car isn't financed. I'm paying cash for the car, how would the insurance agency know whether or not I have a loan for it, and how/why would it effect it? maybe rcatherton could help us out there.

If you have a loan out on the car the place that loans you the money for the car has the title also and they want proof of full coverage I had this on my car when I bought it. Also for the last 6 months I just did liability since the balance was around 1000$ so even if the car was totaled they still could have made there 1k. They never called me or sent any letters. I know if you have a loan on the car via dealership or something like that they will force you to buy full coverage. The quote is for one year 181.50$ that's what it says.

Grundy is really inexpensive but what are the usage limits? my 951 is not used in winter at all and is garaged. It is only driven in warmer months and only on weekends. Its not a daily driver. usually i dont hav eit insured when its garaged. I drive it to work sometimes.

Would grundy be a better insurance for me?
