Vendor was magown. I dont think it would be oronic even if it was SFR though. It is a slightly used turbo. I am just hoping Tim will chime in, or someone in the know...

I agree if I had bought it from Tim, that information should have been given. I am not sure you are entirely familiar with the meaning of the word ironic though. I mist admit my Mandarin, Chinese, Taiwanese, and Hakka dialects are non existent too!

Yeah, I will try and email Tim directly, I just would feel quilty given he did not actually sell me it, so effectively I have not paid for his service... we had a thread on this not long ago. Paying for tuners expertise as a premium for tuners higher product costs.

You don't you drop a line to Ray Hall a line. Not sure how he works consulting but I am sure he can fill in the details. He is up in Queensland.

Tim was a great help to me when I was installing an SFR MAF unit I bought off of eBay. He faxed me a new set of instructions without any hassle. That's why I have returned to buy more stuff from him.

Yeah, I know tim does good work, and I have bitch slapped him a couple of times here... though I am starting to change my tune a little. I will wait for him to see this and he can respond if he wants.

NZ,
My point of view is that vendors
irregardless of where you buy
their products from, should stand-by
their products by at least giving
some basic advice when needed
which in your case is what it is,
just basic advice.
Yes I do understand the word
'ironic'. In this situation, I had
initially thought that you got the
turbo from SFR & yet had to seek
advice from Rennlisters which I
thought was rather alarming.

Sam,

I had a 1980 924 turbo before I bought my 1989 951 and it ate 3 turbos in 168,000 miles, and I was very careful to always sit for 3-5 minutes before shutting down. My friends thought I was nuts. My 196,000 mile 951 is on it's original turbo and usually sit for less than 15 seconds, if only for the turbo to spin down to its idle speed.

I wouldn't shut a non-boosted engine down after a hard run, not to mention a boosted one. If the temp sensor on the turbo is doing its job, the bearing temperature should never rise much above the pump activation point. The pump will supply enough coolant to absorb the heat and safely dissipate it away from the bearing. The oil residue will never get close to its coking temperature. It would be nice to keep the oil flowing as well, but that's a little less practical, plus, the factory design has proven itself.

Andrew, I would go ahead and run the oil restrictor if I were you (if you water cool it). It seems like the thing to do with everyone else doing it. The only reason I didn't put one in my new turbo is because I plan to have the intake manifold off again in the near future. I want to do a before and after test.

NZ 951,

I have posted it here before but often poeple forget or tend to ignore things.

I sold the vitesse stage 2 turbo to Magown. The turbo was slightly used (500 miles on it) and in like new condition. He paid fast, I delivered fast. After he got the turbo he tried to renegotiate the deal and told me that the turbo is a piece of crap as it has a huge play and he wants his money back.

Apparently he doesn't have a clue about turbos and the play has to be measured when the turbo is in oil. He seems to be happy now but he never bothered to excuse to me for his rude behaviour.

Also, the reason why he sold his SFR stage 3 turbo is that the spool up time is huge and the car is almost not driveable with that turbo. Those were his own words. I still have all of his emails.

He was extremly upset with me posting this here, but I couldn't care less. He told me that he didn't buy the turbo from SFR and otherwise Tim is a great guy, blah, blah, blah.

He wrote to me that TIm doesn't have a clue about turbos.

I recommended to you about 1,000 times that you shouldn't buy this turbo, so I don't feel guilty. Good luck anyway. I didn't know that Magown sold you this special turbo but now I remember.
