Default Shocks replacement

Hi!

I own a 1986 951 and my shock absorbers are really worn out. I was wondering what kind of struts were theses? Is it possible to fit inserts or if I'll have to buy the whole absorber? What is the cheapest place selling the appropriate replacement? I don't care if they're Koni, Sach or any other jobber brand because my first priority is money. I shouldn't have bought a 951 when going to university.

Thanks!
Yan

Appear to be Konis. Housing can be modified to accept inserts. Talk to Paragon Products.

I agree they do appear to be Konis, which can be rebuilt.

Do you mean this struts conversion? If so, the total replacement price is 530$ which is almost the price of a complete clutch kit. Is there any cheaper alternative?!

I didn't find the specific model for the 951... Where can I find it or how much does it cost from this specific supplier?

Thanks!

On as short a budget as you are, I'd look for Boge/Sachs stock replacements, or buy them used from someone who's upgrading.

- Do Boge-Sachs require a struts conversion too? If so, what would be the total replacement price and who's selling them for cheap?

- Isn't buying used shocks a bad idea? Someone may sell somes that'll last less than 2 years.

Thanks!!

1) If you are on that short a budget, and trust me I mean this in the nicest possible way, sell the car. These cars cost a ton to maintain properly, everytime you skimp on a job it will come back to bite you in the ***.

2) A used part may not last 2 weeks, it is USED.

3) Call Paragon, they sell the Boge/Sachs units I believe they are 90 bucks each plus the labor to swap the springs over and realign the car. All told it will probably be in the 350 range if you replace them yourself and take it somewhere to have it aligned. The Koni price they show is for the inserts and the conversion, you can do the conversion yourself and save the 100 dollars if you like. Either way they buy struts to convert so it is worth the call.

Yes I'm short a budget, but I'll be only for the next year or so (after my 4 years and a half of computer engineering). Then, money shouldn't be a big issue. The facts remain: I must change these near to dangerous shocks now.

Thanks for you help! I'll go in this way.

Check the classifieds and ebay, you can usually get good used shocks cheap in either place.
