Default Hesitation at ~3k (new owner)

Hello all, I bought my 951 about three weeks ago ('87, 66k miles, completely stock, Guards Red) and have also become a Rennlist member, lurking and learning lots.

The car runs well and I'm looking forward to modifying it but before I play with it I want get it completely sorted, freshen everything up and then go from there.

Here's my question:

At about 3k rpm, just as the boost starts to roll in, the car hesitates and/or misses and then pulls hard(!) from there. Is this normal? Weak wastegate spring? Ignition? (I have cap/rotor/plugs/wires on the way) Bad Karma maybe?

Thanks in advance for any advise and thanks too for the great forum!
