Default Excellence Mag Article 944 market value

I had been following the post in Excellence about ther opnion of market value for the 944. I did some checking and found my car in my area to come in at 3 different number's. True Market Value .com or TMV had my car at around $9K, NADA says around $10K and Kelly Blue book gives me a whopping $4700.00. Going with this means he is pretty close to what the numbers say. He has my car 88 951 in exlcellent condition at $10838.00 real close to what I would sell it for I would need more but close. After looking at 4 other 951's I did buy the best example and got a real good buy. But I looked around and waited for the right car. I am not sure where they are conducting ther searching from but in my neck of the woods they seem to be real close to what the car's are selling for. Mine has 100K miles and I got a $380 credit for low miles and I thought the miles was to many. If I were to sell mine right now I woulds ask $12K for it and would settle for around $11,5K no lower. I think anybody looking for a 951 just needs to go out drive some not very nice examples and then drive a car like mine and they would then see the car's real value. I think Ebay is a great thing but I also think it has destroyed some value of our car's baised just on them being sold for below market value. Still for say $12K you can by a very very nice 951 that is still the best performance value out ther for the $$. What is the 0-60 times on the new Vette maybe 1.5 seconds faster then our car's but at a $60K price tag. Not to mention the head turning I get in my car. When I see a Vette going some where I think Oh it's just another Vette. Big Deal I saw 4 of them on the way to the mall.

What was the general direction of the 944 market. I'm guessing decreasing in price, but was it for both the turbo and non turbo models? How drastic?

The 89 944 NA Cars in Excellent condition show having a value of $7438.00 as of 2003. In 1999 the same car had a value of $8638.00 My 951 goes from $11033.00 in 99 to $10838.00 so according to them it drops $200.00 over 5 years. But my car had a high of $12213.00 in 2001. Not sure why it jumped then droped. Not bad for a 16 year old car that is still in the performance game of the new car's out now.

I flipped through that page. IIRC the 88 turbo S is increasing in price.

Well I just couldn't care less getting bogged down with resale concerns. Anytime you get into the "car hobby" business be prepared to win or lose big. Generally our loses are at minimum if we invest wisely with a project which "stays". Too many folks buy stuff, hop-it-up or redesign then get bored and sell. That's where you lose most of your money. A car is not, never has been, a solid investment. If that's what you're after than buy real estate.

Yea, I wonder if I should just rebuild my stock k26/8 turbo and keep it in the car that way? either that or a k27/8? I really think 280-300 RWHP would satisfy me and keep me out of big trouble.
Do you think putting a T04B or T04E in the car could depreciate it to a true porsche buyer?

My car is an 88 Turbo S Alpine white. I read somewhere that only 63 of that color were made in 88. Its only a matter of time before something that uncommon increases in value! Great News!

Any other turbo would have to be better than the k26/6 I have in there for now. I would hate to cause the car to depreciate though.

Not sure what it would do to the value, Like everything else you would need to find the buyer that was looking for it. I think Peter has a good point on doing stuff and then needing to unload the car and taking a beating on the price. For me other then the New Cup wheels I plan to keep my car stock. More just because I want to enjoy it more then wrench on it or have it down for a long time. But if I were to pick up another car at a real cheap price and then do some up grades that might be a different story and save my nice car for Sunday drives.

The whole idea behind my post was just a comment on the real number's for my area and how much of a deal these car's are.

I just picked up my 'new' 86 951 yesterday. I looked at a lot of cars over the past couple years and sadly enough, most of them were trashed. At least half of the turbos I tested would never get passed limp mode and the current owners either didn't know any better or hoped I didn't know any better. The prices varied by a large margin. I don't mind working on my car, but after looking high and low I was able to get a car in good mechanical condition at a GREAT performance to $$$ ratio. Also, I bought my previous rough condition 86 951 in 1997 for $5600 and sold it three years later for $8000. I thoroughly enjoyed those years and that car.
