Default New Aluminum Catch Can

Just got this today...
It is 3" by 3" by 6" minus the filter. Going to try to install it where the intake box went. Have two different versions of the can, the vertical bar mount and a flange mount (firewall mount). Has an internal baffle to keep the fluid where it is supposed to be when going around corners and provides extra surface area for the vapor to condense on. Looks promising so far...

(BTW I have extras if anyone needs one... $55 shipped. Just let me know which style to send.)

May be 1/4 an inch too tall... But we can fix that with a little modding.

This could not have come at a better time! I am making one at the moment. It will not feed back into the turbo and will................. mount off the strut and suspend between the engine and strut! There is a little cavity there which allows this. I will post pics in a week or so when it is done. I could not mount it where the intake box was.

Also, it will drain out of a rubber plug that screws into the side of it for easy access.

Are you plumbng it back in to the inlet? I would love that extra one if yo actually got it to fit in the inake position. That would save me a lot of hassle.

Is draining going to be a hassle for you?

It will fit - just have to massage it a bit. It looks like it will fit easily anywhere else there is room... I have a few extra's... I also have this type of mount. It will take about a week to get to them though (will be out of town). I'll post pics when I get it mounted...

Oh and no it is not going back to the intake - vents out the filter on top.
Draining will be a snap:
I will either leave it the way it is with the stock **** or put on another fitting with a line to drain to a bucket or even back to the oil pan.

In the position it is in, the drain **** is right between the two radiator fans in the front. In other words, a streight shot to the ground. It will also be pretty easy to get your hand in there either from the top or bottom.

PM or email me if you want dibbs on some of the extras I have...

dmo-
They are iceshark cables... nice pieces, but for the money, you could build yourself the same thing for 1/2 the price... I just didn't have time to spend getting the sleeving (I already had the cables).

What is the purpose of the catch can agian? From what I know its supposed to catch the left over oil or somthing, but from where? Does it add to the performance or just to keep the car clean?

it is designed to separate oil from the air-oil vapor coming from the crank-case breather. the factory setup routes this air right back into the intake system, at the j-boot - this causes you to burn the oil vapor, reducing the "effective octane rating" and can either lead to a loss of performance or worse (detonation, but it'd have to be a LOT of oil vapor).

Nice! You have extras of the can you say?
But I think I'm more interested in routing it back to the intake, I don't like the idea of risking blowing dip-sticks out of the tube etc when venting the crankcase to the atmosphere like that.
