Default My new TEC turbo. Pics + questions

So the turbo showed up... it looks HUGE compared to the old one. I asked for a T04E 60 trim, and had a few questions.

The T04E 60 trim supposedly has a 3" inlet. My inlet is 4", well sorta... there's like 2 inlets, one for the wheel, and one for my piping, which is 4". So is that 3" or 4"? I've never seen anything like it (not that I've seen a whole lot of turbos). A quick search on turbo sites got me nowhere, can't find anyone with the same compressor housing. In fact, the 60 trims that others are selling has the M24 marking with .60 A/R, same as the 57 trim. So confusing!

Also, I thought all T04's had the M24 marking? This one has a M12 marking, not sure what that means. Anyways, here are the pics. If anyone can positively ID it, that'd be great. I'm just curious if I got something that's too big, cuz I didn't plan on getting more lag.

Anyways, here are the pics.

Mine will be here tomorrow. Just a little .54 trim.

What did you do with the oil restrictor issue? Did you talk to Jim and did you understand his stance on not using one?
Thanks,
DanD

Oh, and I've seen a bunch of pictures of turbos, but never a double inlet.
Wonder what the theory is on that one..

I'm planning on not using a restrictor. The center section is KKK, so it should be fine...

Ups the bar just a little bit higher, m** is a form of measurement for fittings so it may have to do with the lines

That's one BIG turbo!

The dual inlets aren't that unusual. I've seen them on many "truck"-turbos like Schwitzer and Holset.
Also the huuuge Turbonetics turbos like the Y2k have similar inlets (only it has a 7" outer inlet hehe)

I would call that a 4" inlet..
The theory is as simple as to minimize every possible restriction before the turbo, and even though the compressor wheel is smaller than 4" it will suck tremendous amount of air.

Does it have a KKK replica hotside?

That housing looks huge! What size is the compressor outlet?

The one TO4E-60 I've seen had a 3" inlet and the m24 markings as well as a .60 A/R.

The reason for the "dual" inlets is to help against compressor surge, I am not 100% how or why it works, but that's the point. All the 60trim's I've seen had a normal to04e cover, that looks like a t4 cover, it could still be a 60trim wheel though. I hope you have room for a 4" intake.

The only issue that I see(an important one) , is the fitment for the J pipe over the alternator. Your obviously not going to be using the stock alternator, cause it's already a tight fit with the 3" inlet. You will most likely need the 1983 944 alternator(it's 10mm smaller in diameter).

Wow thats one big *** turbo I think you win the big turbo on the month award!. Your gonna need some "beware Jet intake" decals on your car. I am curious to hear what your doing about the alternator too.
