Default Clutch problem

Hey guys,
As you guys know, i'm having some clutch problems, so I took it for a test drive.
So, I was driving my car today and I noticed that the clutch pedal was higher than usual when I let off. Plus, when I accelerate there is a lot of vibration and if I put enough throttle, the clutch doesn't grab. Sometimes, it slips then grabs just slightly, then slips again. Well, that's what it feels like. Could it be that the slave cylinder is leaking and is causing the clutch to slip? I'm not sure, I was told this is possible. Plus, when I shift, it doesn't shift smoothly, and that's why I think it could be from the slave cylinder. I could be way off base here..

Should I go ahead and try to see what it is, or should i just change the clutch and that's it?

Thanks guys

That sounds a lot like the problem I had when my clutch was worn. Hard 2nd/3rd gear accel it would vibrate when torque peaked and then vibes would taper off towards redline.

How much power are you laying down if you had to guess?

I would have to guess around 240 to the wheels.

Yea, that sounds a lot like what my problem is. How much did it coast you to have the clutch fixed?

My mech gave me an estimate of 1950 bucks.

Thanks

That's about right, I just had mine done. I purchased the stage two from LR for 700.00 + 75.00 for lighting + 1200.00 for labor. Any price range form 1500.00 to 1700.00 I think is ok and the norm. Reno

A leaking slave cylinder might cause slippage, but not the vibration you describe. A recent 968 thread covered a similar problem that was caused by a fragged friction disc. Other parts like springs, etc. can break loose and get lodged between the friction surfaces causing poor engagement/disengagement.

Bottom line: You have some type of mechanical failure in the clutch and it must be replaced.

Reno's cost estimates sound about right.

while in there, check the line running from the master to the slave, mine was TOAST on my 2nd (black) 96... practically cooked from being that close to the down-pipe...

Silverbullett951,
While you're taking everything apart and draining the system, might as well replace the master cylinder as well. And as someone mentioned, replace the rubber hose from the top of the firewall to the slave.

Bleeding is fun. Try to fill everything on the bench before installation. I pumped a lot of fluid through the new master and hard line to fire wall to get the air out of them before installing the rubber hose and slave.
I bought a Speed Bleeder valve for the slave from Paragon which helped immensely.

Good luck.
