Default 4.11 Ring and Pinion

all,

We are considering a run of 4.11 ring and pinion gear sets for the larger style gearboxes (aor, agr, aos etc.). This would avoid having to find the audi 5000 tdi R/P and back dating to small gears to get a 4:11. Price is not set yet and will be determined based on interest. We will sell these at cost/group buy pricing. let me know if you have any questions as well

I might be interested.

Already going the Audi 5N route and have a few used transmissions located for donors.

Mine is for an NA car though at a target 230 RWHP but I might be on board if the price is right.

Is there a trans chart for reference with the 4-eleven?

You mean input rpm > mph....?
I can create one today if I don't get too busy.

If you meant drive/driven 1-5 speed gears, the trick is to use just the ring and pinion.
Not that there may not be an opportune ratio or two in the Audi boxes, as they have a pretty vast variety of ratios between the gas thru the diesel but a 944 1-5 (with short 5th) works out pretty nice on paper with just the 4:11 diff.

Look around some of the GT40 and Lambo kit car sites, they use a lot of these parts.

[Edit] nvmd, Lambo link dead

Here's another nice online gear ratio calculator http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/GearCalc.html
It provides plenty of data.

4.11 paired with the 951 gears will be comparable to a standard NA box in terms of overall gearing ratios.

should pull hard, as long as not concerned about max mph in gear.

rough max speed in gear IIRC...
1: 42 951/35 NA
2: 72 951/58 NA
3: 105 951/85 NA
4: 140 951/120NA
5: ???

So comparing this to say swapping in the cw&p from the S2 is somewhat negligible? I know that's a great and relatively cheap/easy mod for 95% of 951s.

I"m looking for a 4:11 ring and pinion for my 1989 44S2. I'm interested in a group buy if someone is going to remanufacture them.

The 4.11 ring and pinion set used by Audi in their 5N and other transmissions will not work in a 944S, S2, or Turbo transmission. The latter have thicker (along the pinion shaft axis) gears, and a longer pinion shaft to accommodate them. The S/2/T r&p are unique to the 944 series Porsches afaik. I am not aware of a 4.11 (9:37) r&p, Albins doesn't seem to make one. Albins does have shorter 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears available -- at a cost. You can always ask Albins to make the part, not sure what it would take to get a "yes" from them.

The 4.11 r&p for the eight-valve, normally-aspirated 944 and 924S transmission has been NLA for some years. I do have a supplier in Europe who has what I understand are NOS (new) sets. You can also sometime find good used sets. It is *critical* that they be correctly set up with the factory pinion depth toolset if you want them to survive. You also need to install the 3rd and 4th gears unique to that pinion shaft: 4th gear is an interference (press) rather than spline fit, as is 3rd gear with a different ID than the stock part. The sized 4th gear circlip is also different, not sure of its availability but I have them.

Good luck!
