Where to get sleaving "kits"
#106
I appreciate the info Racer. I was trying to stay local. I have actually found a shop here Locally called "Motorworks" and a guy there named Mike. Anyone heard of this place? They say that can go to 105-106 with Darton Sleeves and still keep it a dry sleeve situation.

Take a look back at the old posts on this thread for extended info...
-Vogel Sleeves
-Vogel Ti Conn rods
-Arias Pistons / Vogel design
-Vogel Tool Steel Wrist pins - thick wall
-Total Seal ring package
-copper head gasket
I do all of the machining and installation, in-house.
In the works...100-106mm bore, closed deck sleeves.... for the use of stock and Cometic MLS head gaskets.
thanks.

In terms of detonation, I learned to tune with the 951 and at first experienced a lot of detonation trying to play with timing. This is bad detonation, as in it's audible. Even with such abuse, there were no signs of detonation burning through the headgasket. A lifted head plus detonation would rip through that gasket mighty quick...
I might be totally wrong, but this is based on my experience.

I do live in Effingham and I did attend the Tweeks Porsche fest for a couple hours on Saturday morning, however, I am, in no way, affiliated with the Tweeks company.
I've been to all the Porsche fests since Tweeks was taken over by MidAmerica 'Vette... and I'd have to say that this last event in '04 was the lamest ever! I like to blame it partially on the local **** authorities. Last year they doled out hundreds of dollars in tickets to outsiders and out-of-state folks who revved thier engines, burned out, or just generally participated in activities which most freedom loving people consider a "good time". Lo and behold, this year, most of the really interesting cars were NOT in attendence.
After you spent two nights in a hotel and about 6 meals out, would you go back to a place after the cops write you $150 tickets for things like window tinting, burnouts, and 10 MPH over????
Call me next time and I'd love to get together. We can have a porschefest in my garage with a six pack...

I was not impressed either. The turno out was not what I had been told it was.
Will put it on the calendar and head to your place next time.

Earlier in the thread, there was mention of corrosion due to dissimilar metals - aluminum block vs steel sleeve.
Vogel, you mention your sleeves use an interference fit to the block - are you using any sort of grout or sealant around the mating area to combat any potential corrosion issues? Is this even necessary with an interference fit?
BTW, great work man!

As for the possibility of corrosion...with the new antifreezes this is not typically an issue. Back in the day, the corrosion problem was more evident (but remedied) on engines like the Vega.
Thanks for your support!
