I don't think its a 20 hour job, the shop owner quoted me as 2 days of careful work, so 12 hours if pushed. Also this price probably assumes that you have the updated headers and cross-over pipe.
Thank you Kelly! Wow, looks like I really overestimated the book hours.

How do I find out if I have the two-piece crossover pipe? What do I have to look for? Does anyone have pictures of the one- and the two-piece crossover pipes?

Thanks,

Gary.

Look under the car, if the cross over pipe has nuts and flange than its the 2 piece, if its not then, good luck. I wish I can scan the service manual pages, but my scanner is busted.

Gary, do you mind if I ask where you bought those gauges from?
The boost, air/fuel, etc, and how much they where?

Thanks.

Kelly,

If I recall correctly, my crossover pipe has flange and bolts where it connects to the headers, and flange and bolts where it connects to the turbo. Is that what you mean?

I've got the factory service manuals in my office. Do you know which section those pictures are in?

Thanks,

Gary.

How much torque can the standard clutch handle???

So far mine fortunately has been able to keep up with the power/torque upgrades. When the clutch needs renewal that is obviously an important consideration.

Cyrus,

The boost and A/F gauges I bought on ebay. I've had them for a long time on a different car. I don't recall the price, sorry!

The EGT came with my headers that I bought from Under Pressure. I think you can find EGT packages for $150 or so.

Best,

Gary.

Gary, in the turbo service bible refer to Clutch Operation, Chaper 30, Verse 3 Well its not quite sunday yet.

Seriously if you don't get the biblical humor, its in the Turbo Supplement, page 30-3 has a nice pic showing both crossoverpipes, if you get down on your stomach or back while looking under your car, the extra flange will be pretty apparent after referring to the pictures in service manual. Also another possible clue is that if you have the updated headers (with bellows for expansion) and shop worth their salt would have changed the crossover pipe as well.

Kelly, found it, thanks, and I do appreciate the humor! Now all I have to do is get under my car tomorrow and compare with the pictures...

I replaced my clutch once with a mechanic and it took us 24 hours with the one piece crossover. As we speak I am having my clutch done by a mechanic. I bought the lightned clutch kit from Lindsey racing, 750.00 plus 75.00 for lightning. My mechanic said about 900 for Labor for a Grand total of 1,725.00. My friend has a Chevy and his parts and labor for the clutch was 400.00. One last note, I had the rear main seal replaced with the red seal vs. the black seal. I was told that the black rear main seals don't last has long. Reno

The P.O. on my car spent about $2600 on a clutch right before I bought the car.

It looks like there was a complication with an exhaust bolt while trying to get to the clutch that might have added a bit of time to the job, but apparently it is possible to spend a hell of a lot more than $1200 or $1700 on this job.
