Where can I get one of these gauge holders?..
The plastic holder that holds these gauges.
I know lindsey sells them, but $20 for a piece of plastic is a bit
Anyway..here's a pic..

I can vouch for it. The Lindsey unit is metal as I have one in my dash. Looks brushed rather than having a grainy/bumpy texture like that. $20 is cheap compared to what some companies want for that little piece of metal! Yes, you could make something pretty easy if you had a template to work off of, cut you a piece of aluminum, drill holes for the mounting screws, chamfer all the edges and paint it. I figured since I hard to order something else anyway that it wasn't really worth the time it would take me to call places and find someone to get me a piece of metal for it and have it cut to size, then to spend the time to drill, smooth the edges, buy paint and paint it, etc. I figured my time could be better spent doing other things.

If you want to be real cheap about it then just buy a block-off plate for DIN-sized
radios!
A black block-off plate shouldn't look too out of place in a black 944 interior (I'm a cheapskate myself and have one as a gauge plate too) and costs next to
nothing at the nearest automotive general store. You can then drill just as many holes as you need to it for switches and gauges, and the plastic is a lot easier to work on than alumininum or other metals.
Of course, if you want fancy looking bling-bling stuff (aluminum/carbon) that black plastic isn't going to cut it...

I would think that you could just go to a hardware store or something and find a piece of plastic and cut one your self with a dremel and a hacksaw. Probably wouldn't cost more than about 5 bucks.

Cyrus, the company that did mine is Tap Plastics (http://www.tapplastics.com/). The material they used is granulated ABS I believe. It's a bit plasticky-shiny, so depending on your taste you might want to paint it flat black. I didn't, but it looks good enough for me.
Have fun,
Gary.

its 20 bucks...I dont get it, for the time spent searching and making it you could have a plate at your door. huntley used to sell them for 75. 20 something isnt that bad. Also, its not a perfect square....

Just go to a local home improvement or hobby shop and grab a sheet of plastic 1/8" thick or so - anything'll do if you paint it, acrylic, plexi, aluminum - then just Dremel it out, all that stuff's soft and easy to work.

I used a sheet of approx 1/8” aluminium from a hobby shop and then cut the gauge holes I wanted. I then covered the metal with black leather which closely resembles the grain of the dash.
I got the leather from Tandy Leather … one of their leather pieces meant for making wallets as I recall. It was the perfect size and good quality.
One of the main reasons for going to these lengths (as opposed to just buying the thing from HR) is that I bought an ARM-1 and so wanted to have a rectangular opening in the plate to mount it.
I can post some pics if you guys like.
Cheers,
Michael

I actually cut a piece of cardboard to shape, and took it down to TAP plastic. They cut it for me out of their ABS plastic (or at least I think that is what they call it -- it looks exactly like the lead photo in this thread).
