Default Very loose shift **** (video)

Hi, I'm guessing I will probably need a new shift arm and maybe the bottom ball-joint bushing - wondering if anyone else's shifter is or has been like this?
'
Sorry for the robotic voice LOL - this video shows it in 4th gear, but it is this loose like this in every gear.

Mine never had anywhere near that much play.

Yeah, it's crazy. If you didn't know any better, you'd think the **** was in the neutral position...

Had the same problem. You need to tighten the linkage at the back of the tranny that connects to the shifter.

Hmmm ok, is that a difficult procedure or not too bad?

I don't quite get the concept of the short-shifter. What does it do?

The short shifter makes you very happy. I stalled both trans linkage pieces from only944, as well as bushings up front. I wish I'd done it 10 years ago..

What is all involved in installing the short shift linkage(s)? What was your time to complete the job?

Thanks

Thanks for the vid! Wish it would have shown a little more about what is involved in putting in the short shift piece, but it was very entertaining nonetheless!

The short shift part goes on the trans. Only944 has good instructions: https://www.only944.com/instructions...hifterinstall/

Doesn't look all that daunting.

I had to make a puller to remove the old linkage from the gearbox. As for the rod that goes over the top of the gearbox, it was a real PITA to fit.

My money is on the shifter itself being worn out where the shift shaft attaches to the shifter. Instead of being cylindrical yours is most likely tapered on both ends. Pop the boot up and move it in gear like that again. You'll see it.
