Default my 2002 minivan Ford Windstar started to make terrible noise,

after turning on gas pedal, and started doing this sound all the time when engine is running. Is it safe to drive?

Absolutely, for the sound to go away you need to flush the bad oil by draining the oil and filling the engine with fresh water run it at 5k rpms for 30 minutes and all your noises should be gone by then

Sounds like you got the best advice above. Take caution before you turn off the gas pedal. If not done properly it may not turn back on ever again.

Great advice! I had a problem keeping my brakes from freezing up and making bad noise in the cold weather so I made sure to coat my brake pads in WD-40, just passing it along.

That is the best sound you could hope for. Mine makes that sound on a normal basis especially when I drive a metal spike through the oil pan then drive in left hand circles for an hour. But only left hand turns... Oh and don't forget to coat the tires with grease, that's the key right there.
