Default Cylinder head oprv and dry sump

Hi , could anyone tell me if the oil pressure relieve valve in the cylinder head is used when using a dry sump system ? The main engine oprv is not used but I am unsure what effect the cylinder head oprv would have on the system, this is on a 2.7 head.

Are you talking about the valve at the oil entry into the head? It's function is different than the OPRV. It keepscylinder head oil galleys full when the engine is shut down, and it restricts full oil flow to the top end (where it's not needed). You need the valve with a dry sump, or with any oil system for that matter.

Well on the engine I have in my 89 944 2.7 that I picked up that didn't have an OPRV in it blew the cam tower seal out. It's a must have kinda deal. Why did you want to buy my spare 2.7 head without the OPRV??? Porsche actually still has the OPRV for the 2.7 head available but there all in Germany.

Thank you for the response . I should have explained that my valve is siezed and my intention was to remove the plunger still leaving the smaller oil restriction in place. Sounds like this is not recommended . Thanks

I only say OPRV meaning oil pressure restrictive valve. I sometimes make thing up as I go.
