Default Oil Pump Drive Sleeve - Stuck?

Hi All - been a while since I've been on here. Currently working on a friend's S2, doing belts and a front end re-seal, among other things. Everything going to plan (unusual for these cars, I know ), except for the drive sleeve for the oil pump. With the seal removed, the sleeve should slide off the nose of the crank, but this one moves a couple of mm, then stops, quite definitely, as if it's hitting an obstruction. Nothing obvious, and I'm reluctant to use much force in trying to remove it, so wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what they did about it.

thanks in anticipation
Rob

You removed the keyway right?

Assuming you removed the key, often the keyway is boogered up a bit. Use a fine file to go across the (raised) edges of said keyway and you should be able to remove the drive sleeve.

Thanks guys - of course I removed the %##$** key - that was a trial in itself, and the seal. Looking at the PET diagram, it seems that Michael's solution can be the only possibility, so in with the fine file and see how it goes...

Sorry, no cigar - the sleeve stops well before the keyway, and I've polished off any wear marks on the crank. See pics below showing full extent of movement. It appears to me that the sleeve is hanging up on the splines going into the oil pump, possibly from wear?. Looks like oil pump off, unless you have any better ideas...
