Default Is my oil pump toast? Picture

I’m doing a reseal on the front of my 944T and came across this stupidness. Car was worked on by factory Porsche mechanics couple delearships between California and Texas. First time I’m doing it and maybe I should have been doing it all along!! Is this repairable? Should i worry? Car developed a leak somewhere in the front, wasn’t exactly clear it was from the main seal. I'm not the original owner, but bought it many years ago from a physician. The car was always serviced in So Calif by dealer (Rusnik), but when I moved to Texas, it was serviced there. Really????

Gouge at the mating surface (race) of the seal at the bottom:

It's a small scratch. It might be big enough to cause a small amount of oil seeping around the seal. Ideally you should buy a new oil pump, but honestly it would be easy to seal it successfully by smoothing down the scratch and rubbing a small dab of sealant into the scratch before you press the new seal in.

I've seen worse. As Dave said, smooth it out then use a dab of rtv silicone.

If there are raised sections on the scratch carefully use a very sharp knife to remove the raise portions not sand paper. This advise comes from my work where we repair things like this trying to keep a bore round in various repair situations.....a person can not sand a round bore...only a machine can do this.
