Default Does this mark denote a relationship to inner gear?

howdie guys, today I took my oil pump apart for general inspection and reseal. I noted this small mark on the outer gear of the pump (at the end of screwdriver) but no corresponding mark on the inner gear.
Anyone know if it matters what teeth I decide to seat these two gears in relation to each
another?

Mark on outer gear faces out.

That pump looks like it has seen better day though.

The aluminum pocket has a mirror image of the wear on those steel gears.

BTW, sorry didn't answer your actual question, no, it doesn't matter what orientation the teeth align.

Ok, thanx. So, would it be a mistake to clean and reseal this pump? Will it be dependably functional? Wasn't having any pressure problems, but if there is evidence that I should replace pump maybe I should?
what do you think??

I only see your pic if I click "quote" your post so it's hard to see the whole pump at once, hold up let me see if I can repost the pic for you.

Nope, I see how you posted it but it doesn't show for me unless I open a new message and quote your post and when I copy the picture's locations and insert it in it still doesn't show.

Anyway, you have chips out of some teeth and it looks like that pump passed some metal through it before.

I can post the specs from the manual on checking it if you want...?

What does the crescent that separates the two gears in the middle feel or look like like...?

Wow, good eye and excellent diagnostician! I looked at the crescent and there does seem to have a chunk missing. Unless it’s suppose to be that way. But how does a chunk this big not completely destroy the rings and at least severely gouge the soft aluminum housing? The gears, by the way, turn smoothly without any hesitancy

Huh! There’s a photo of the shop manual also showing this “lesion”. Maybe it’s supposed to be there!
