Im looking for some links to some harness bars for a 951, or if any one has one for sale let me know, or if any one is sellin a roll bar cheap. Would it be safe to install 4 or 5 points with out a harness bar? TIA

I have heard good things about the Redline equipment:
http://www.homestead.com/redlinerenn...uardPage.html,
and John Hajny, the owner, is a great guy!
Hope this helps,
Gary.

Thanks! (goggle search couldn't find it).
I think I just figured out, you are SELLING the bar you have?
Is it ok w/stock seats and 4 pt harness? Iam looking for part-time/DE type solution.

i was doing a little research on harnesses and found several people complaining about stock seats with the harnesses... apparently they keep sliding off or something...

Yup. Selling. Sorry for the lack of clarity.
Generally, knowledgeable track folks steer clear of 4/5 points and stock (no harness guide slots) seats for the reason rhesus mentioned. I've had one DE instructor refuse to get in the car with me because I had 5 points and seats but no roll bar. The reasoning was with the harnesses and race seats we would be held in place if the car rolled, but we had no rollover protection. I guess the chassis and A and B pillars don't count at all.

I personally would not use harnesses without a roll bar/cage as well. With the already cramped cockpit and a helmet on it doesn't leave a lot of room for compression (other then in your neck) should you roll. But hey, it's all a gamble anyway?

I bought a stable energies harness guide bar.
I'm pissed off at them.
I recieved it and while opening it I came across a sheet of paper.
It stated that it was illegal to attach the harness to their bar (it had to be bolted to the floor!)
So I would need like what 75 inch harnesses!
I thought that maybe I could have looped the harnesses around the bar, but no.
Well that wasn't stated when I bought it.
So they can go to hell and I will purchase a different one later.
It does make my car look way more aggressive with my race seats though.

After some research, I concluded that the Weltmeister 944 harness bar was the best: it's made of 1 1/2" roll bar stock, and mounts to the rear shoulder harness bolts on the C pillar. However, after using it with stock seats, I concluded that the harnesses were pretty useless since they could slip off my shoulders in a collision, and I went to the Redline rollbar plus Corbeau C2 seats with shoulder harness slots. Not suitable for racing, but a reasonable compromise for DE. Looking at the probabilities with about 25 track days annually, my next investment might be a HANS device.

Bars: There are really only 3 harness bars for the 944. The basic single-bar that attaches to the B or C pillar (predominantly C), The Brey-Krause "fortified" stainless steel harness bar, and the Redline (Hajny) harness-mount/roll-bar. There are no specific harness "mount" bars made for the 944, FWIK. A harness "bar" is, and always has been, a bar to loop the belts over. The belts should be attached elsewhere, such as the lower rear seat belt mounts. Even the very stout B-K unit is not to be used as a mount for the harnesses. The Redline bar is in excess of this topic, but is obviously the safest overall approach, save for a full rollbar or cage - this is the only bolt-in harness "mount".
Search: There was a very long thread over on the 944 board (and, here too) that got a lot of attention, math, conjecture and hopefully a conclusion regarding what was the best way to mount - even some thoughtful discussion on whether it was safe to use belts with stock seats or without a full roll bar. The jury will never rest on that one, nor should it. Does one measure of safety overrule another?
Belts: Three ways to reduce the risk of shoulder belts sliding off are to use: 1. an "H-style" harness (long harnesses with a sewn strap in-between residing behind the seat. 2. a Sternum Strap - removable or sewn strap residing over the, well, sternum - or, upper chest area. 3. Use a slip-over loop system on the seat itself - I haven't seen these in a while, but they used to be available from OG Racing.
Good Luck!

On a somewhat similar note, I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the Schroth ASM-Autocontrol harnesses? Seems like a combination of harness plus regular seat belt... kind of interesting.

Great item for folks with conventional headrests, but suffers from the same problem on seats like Porsches use without the ability to pass the harness through the seat. A sternum strap would reall help out with that one as well. Sparco's Clubman series are similar, and are available in four-point or three-point (four-point has optional camlock design buckle). FYI, these are "light-duty" 2" belts, not approved for racing.
