1989 944 S2 cam chain break..ooooouch!
My cam chain broke after tensioner pieces got into cam sprockets. That caused a chipped tooth on a sprocket, and the mechanic says it broke some of the head tensioner mounting points. We expect some or all of the exhaust valves to be bent. Car only had 80k on it.
Does anyone have rebuildable head or can recommend a place to acquire a rebuilt 3.0 16v head?
Thanks, Steve

Now and then there are S2's being parted, you might wanna look at classifield in 911 & Porsche World magazine (UK) and Excellence (US).
Also.. as S2 is technically close to 220hp 951, you might wanna consider a turbo engine there too?
Edit:Btw, is the cam ok? I have a spare 944 S2 exhaust cam.

Concerns once rebuilt?
On a somewhat related topic (and I apologize if this takes this thread in the wrong direction) once the damaged head/valve gear is repaired and replaced, are there any considerations that one should take into account? That is, are there any long term consequences of such a failure and rebuild?
I'll back up a little bit. I'm considering purchasing a 1989 S2 with a chain-failed-and-repaired head. Is this motor effectively toast for it's remaining life?
I plan on a compression check and leak down during the PPI but is this even worth considering?

I bought an S2 with a busted cam chain and had it rebuilt and now track it hard with absolutely no problems. It is however not cheap to do...

Andrew, if the head was welded back together professionally and skillfully then it should be as good as new. The rest of it (bent valves, broken chain, etc) is easy to fix and is just a matter of installing new parts.
Steve, sorry no leads on S2 heads. If you can't find one, I say sell the short block here on rennlist to someone wanting to build a 3.0L turbo, and then stick a new engine in your car. You can go for a 951 engine, 968, w/e. Beware smog rules and stuff.

Not sure where your located, but Werner Machine in Mokena (south of chicago) has an S2 head with some work done to it that might be for sale.... They might also be able to repair the one you have.
Call Wally @ 708-326-4700 and let him know your situation, I'm sure he can find you a solution.
and yes, a 968 head will work...
