Spring is finally here in Canada! (I don’t know what happens, but hot and sunny days appear to be backorder…).
Any how, I took my car out for a spin for the first time since I bought it, a year ago (major repairs have been done). It’s running well, but I found more (expected) issues to fix. One of them, is the muffler. It looks ok from the outside, but inside, it didn’t like the time spent in a humid barn! The input is wobbly and it sounds bad. Like a metal plate is knocking to come out! It might be a good time to replace it. As the rest of the line (including the cat and resonator and exhaust tip) is in good shape, I plan to only cut and replace the muffler.
What are the best options out there? I don’t want it to be too loud. I want to keep the rest of the line intact.
I am planning to drop the line from the exhaust headers and solder the new one on the workbench, then, put it back in place.

What car do you have? Year? Model? (Unless I missed it)
The challenge with using generic mufflers is that the dimensions and configuration of the muffler will not match to the factory system. Some tube fabrication skills will be required. As for welding (soldering?) on the "bench", this is the best way to do it and will work well so long as the assembly is mocked up and tacked together in place first on the car.
One thing I forgot to mention, I do not wish to spend 1000$ on a muffler. I started looking into generic ones.
Are MagnaFlow any good? Or any other suggestions?
Thanks
I bought both a 928 with a Magnaflow setup and an Audi SQ5 with a Magnaflow setup. Removed both as soon as I could. The drone at 2000-2200 rpm was unbearable. I'm not a Magnaflow fan at all and usually go Borla, of which I have a number of systems I'm very happy with. Full cat backnBorlas on both my 928s and a couple of their muffler products added to my Roush F150 in combination with the Roush active exhaust system.
