Default Steering rack

Hey I’m replacing my steering rack and I can’t seem to get the steering wheel linkage to sit on the rack correctly so I can’t put the bolt through to hold it on. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions

Are you saying that you can't get the intermediate shaft u joint to mate up with the notch in the pinion shaft so that the bolt can be inserted? If so, start by making sure you are aligning the right splines with each other. If it's not inserting all the way or is too tight I'll usually drive a cold chisel or fat screwdriver tip into the slot on the u joint to spread it a little.

Yes that is what I mean. I am not sure whether I’m on the right splines or not I’ll do check that first and then try to use a chisel if I am thank you

If I remember correctly the notch is generous enough that you can be off one spline either way of center and still get the bolt through. Of course then your steering wheel will be off center but the good news there is that 944 steering wheels are not master splined, so you can just re index it back to center.

I’ve Ik most got it on but I think I am off a few splines cause my steering wheel is slightly crooked. The only thing is it won’t go on there enough to get the bolt through but I also can’t get it back off

The chisel trick will help get it back off, hopefully you have enough room to get one in there.

You need to put the u-joint shaft onto the rack shaft first, fit the bolt, and THEN bolt the steering rack to the crossmember.
