Default My Worst Day As A Porsche Owner

Never thought I would lose my car like this.

I am posting for any advice from fellow 944 and pcar owners alike for tips and warnings as to what kind of headache I need to expect from the insurance company. This was my first car, my baby, my pride and my joy and i was nearly finished restoring it. What information can I be armed with, to fight for the value of my car? Needless to say accident was not my fault. It is the value of the car where I know they will try and get me.

Also would like to point out and thank the the Porsche engineers for saving my neck. Literally. If you ever needed proof of the robust strength of these chassis, here you go.

Edit: I just want to thank everyone for all the kind words and empathy. One of the reasons I love this community so much.

Ouch....I feel for you loss. 😝 Glad you are physically OK

My assumption is the insurance company will total the car. That being said, they might provide you the residual or salvage value and let you keep the car
or provide you a higher value and they get the car.

Depending on the subframe damage and the body work costs, it might be to your advantage to part the car out and find another 944 to fall in love with.

Many options to look at, intrinsic value, costs to fix, revenue to sell as a parted car, replacement 944, but in the end what is best for you to feel better.

Oh that makes me cry. What kind of vehicle were you rear ended by?

Did you have it insured through regular coverage, or agreed value insurance?

Sorry to see that!
No experience like this with insurance companies but I hope you're treated fairly and can get right back into another 944 project.

Really sorry to see this but I'm glad you're ok. Because of the ridiculous amount of effort dumped into my car, I went with Hagerty a few ago with an agreed amount.

That totally sucks, I'm sorry to see that, but I also am glad that you're OK physically.

Good luck

Probably will get the agreed amount and they will part the car.

Unfortunately I did not have agreed value, I do however have full bumper to bumper coverage. I already know this is going to total I’m just not sure how they are going to determine it’s value.

I was hit by a 4 door Silverado with a cattle guard around 40 to 50mph.

Thanks I appreciate it. I owe that to the car.

I was trying to get mine appraised for this very reason but I couldn't even do that without being forced to spend $700 for a firm to do it.

Ouch man, that's a hard hit.

I hope everything works out in your favor.

Wow...you’re lucky that still in one piece. That photo is so hard to look at...I have a 944 turbo S, agreed value with Hagerty, but I would never want to lose that car. My son was rear ended at a stop light by someone not looking ahead (cell phone) going 40-50 mph. He was in our full size GM Yukon...pushed a 3.5 ton car into another vehicle, extensive damage but he and his date walked away. I replaced both bumpers, a few other things and the full size truck drives well. Her Hyundai not so much...submarined under the rear of the truck. But she walked away also. Sorry to see your beloved 944...count yourself lucky though. People really need to pay attention while they are driving.

I'm happy to hear they walked away safely. This sure gave my friends and family a scare. The impact took out my brakes so after avoiding everyone in front of me I rolled another 200ft until could roll up some curbs and stop. Any lesser of a car and I'd be in the hospital still.

Looks like a close call being so near to the fuel tank. The body was pushed forward quite a bit and could have ruptured the tank, given the close proximity of the tank to the spare tire well! Happy that you came through it as well as you did!
