Default New member from the mountains...

Hello everyone,
First time poster. I just picked up my first Porsche last night for the first time in my life. She is a 1988. I believe the color is Venetian blue. I am loving the car already. Some facts about her:
130k miles
Service history all the way up to 2013 and then nothing but a couple receipts for oil changes here and there.
Originally purchased in Columbia sc, where she spent all her life according to maint records and service records. Up until 2013. I picked her up here in Asheville, nc at a European car sales lot. They went through her and she is in great shape.
Everything looks original. No rust. Paint and body is in awesome shape. Interior is damn near perfect. Couple rips in driver's side seat but all plastics are Sid and no cracks.
Someone put in an aftermarket stereo system and speakers.
Things that don't work:
Fog light button works but won't stay pushed in
Trunk release buttons on both sides don't work(makes me think it might be latch mechanism in rear)
AC blows but no cold air.
Sunroof button not engaging ( possible switch or motor)
I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can from you guys and showing the girl some TLC.

Have always loved that rear end.. still one of the best designs imo, that Porsche ever made

Nice rear deck covering but pretty sure this was done after the fact, not sure? It's a different shades blue than interior blue carpet.

A sea of blue pile carpet. So 80's. I love it

G'day and Welcome!!!

She is a beauty, (like that colour combo) and yes, my sentiments exactly regarding the rear end of these machines, just magic.

The gurus here will chime in and help you with everything you ask, just read the "new visitor" sticky, say thanks, and BE HAPPY!!!, ok you don't always have to be happy...

Look forward to learning more of your journey (especially some engine bay pics)

Default Welcome

Welcome. Sweet ride. The color combo is fantastic. Ditto on the sticky. I am only a recent owner with moderate mechanical aptitude. I have been able to keep my '82 on the road with only a minimal amount of outside intervention because of the help and assistance from the braintrust here.

Welcome. What is your name, and where in the mountains are you located? I'm not too far away from Asheville, I spend a lot of time in Boone and banner elk.

Awesome car. Another ditto on the stickie, also consider becoming a rennlist member....

Oh, and make sure the fuel lines have been or get replaced....

Default Welcome!

There are a number of us in the Greenville/Spartanburg area that are glad to help as well.

Mark your calendar for SITM first weekend in June in Banner Elk. Great chance to meet folks and talk 928's

Welcome! great looking car, It even has Sport seats!

In case you were unaware the steering wheel and shifter are aftermarket. I believe I am seeing a dash cover as well. That is a beautiful color combo! and your in the right part of the country to enjoy the "Sharks in the Mountains" and the "Frenzy" gathering outside of Washington D.C. in the fall.

If you haven't already, read over the FAQ section. Also it is always good to go to the "User CP" near the top left and edit your signature. Add the year/transmission type to said signature so it appears anytime you post. This will help other be able to help you when you ask questions. You may already be aware of all the things I mentioned, but either way welcome and enjoy!

Great looking car. I too have a Venetian blue 88 S4. I have noticed a few different color variations of venetian blu. Your car looks more electric blue, my blue looks a bit more green, and I have seen another venetian blue that is much darker almost purple:

this is my car (88 S4 5spd)

here is 88 S4 car in different light

and here is that darker version of venetian blau (1987)

- Always start with fuses. The rear trunk is a 1amp fuse. My suggestion is you first read through read this fist post in the forum, but then go purchase some
DeOxit DeOxit
and check/clean all the fuses and relays in your fuse panel with the battery connected. Chances are you have one or more blown fuses. As you are checking contacts in your non-working components, clean each connection (
also try this also try this
). Good luck and we hope to hear more about your adventures.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
I have been reading through a lot of the threads here today in-between washing, waxing and generally cleaning on the car. There's a lot of knowledge people here for sure. I'm pretty mechanically inclined so I'm hoping some of those skills carry over to the Porsche. I typically restore and fix up older trucks. Not much room to play around in the bay of these monsters though..haha

Beautiful and sharp looking car. My blue is def a deeper blue color. I need to investigate the true color code for mine. I'm going off what po told me the color of the car is. Yours def has more of a greenish hue to her.

Hey guys, I went to edit my signature under user cp but could not find that option. Do I need to do a minimum posts count first or become a paying member? I just started the forum last night so I only have about 5 posts.
I searched every option on the left under user cp. What am I missing..lol

You will be fine. There is nothing exotic about the 928 except the price. It is built upon solid mechanical and electrical principles. Man built it, you can work on it. You just have to take a methodical approach.

Search for 'Dwayne's Write Ups.' He has done many well documented procedures on how to work on a 928.

As well, cough up $80 and get the Moorehouse CD set from Roger Tyson at 928s R Us. It contains all the Workshop Manuals, Electrical diagrams, PET (parts manual), plus a whole lot more for the 928. Worth having.

Welcome to the tank, and good luck!!!
