Some picture help needed: Starter Cable and Clutch lines
Happy independence day folks. I need some help putting my 88 S4 5spd back together properly and could use some photos of the proper routing of the clutch hose and the power cables to the starter, especially as these items work their way around the engine cross member and power steering rack.
I am particularly interested in the area were the PS hoses connect to the rack. It would be good if you have the lower PS cover removed.
Thanks in advance. I am in the middle of my motor mount and oil pan gasket repair (see post) and there is a bunch of irregularities from PO's.
The clutch line is not stock and seems to route under the bottom of the starter, rather than between the starter and oil pan. I'd be interested to see
Also, the electrical cables (from batter and from alternator) sort of wave between he PS hoses. That does not look right. So pictures of those would be useful too.

This looks about right
I found this shot with some google searches. I think I understand the issue with my clutch line. The flex line in my car and connections are identical to the photo. The hard line looks different, or shorter in my car. So I can deduce the hard line to the slave was shortened and the routing changed.
This photo also gives a good shot of the electrical harness routing, as well. My cables actually weave between the PS hoses. What a mess, glad I stopped to check out the correct position.

Some of these may help (?)
This also shows the orientation of the front swayabr droplink, which angles downward towards the front of the car.

I would suggest to get Greg Browns flexible slave cylinder line that will eliminate the flex line and hard line on your car.
From the picture your also missing the sway bar attachment point,
this needs to be installed to hold the line in position
