You'll be sorry, if you do either one. Mark my words, since there's just something the OB's have...that the newer models don't.

If I had to label it...l'd probably use the term...character.

Which one is brown? '78? If it is, I'm waiting!

Ok, rear shots for the OBs, at least one.

I thought an OB was required to have phone dials & pascha or pinstripe interior. lol!

Yup... just like Coca Cola, all 928s are nice, but there's just something special about the original formula.
I'm curious to know what the OB nuts here look for in a car. How much weight do you give to each or any of these qualities: originality, color, options, year, production #, U.S. vs. RoW, documented history, condition, etc.? Or is is just whatever pops up that's close to you.

It's not quite that complicated for the OB definition, even to the purists like Glen. Just 78/79 cars really, some stretch it to include non-S CIS ROW/Euro cars since technically they are the same overall as 78/79's.

As for options, that's personal preference but the holy grail is one side mirror, no sunroof, no rub strips etc... whatever the "cleanest" possible formula can be. The lower the serial number the better, just extends the rarity of the car in question.

They all look better when all the parts are still attached...

As was noted, OB is the original car.

No spoilers, CIS, goofy upholstery, small motor with little power.
For US cars, 78 or 79. It gets a bit complicated when Euros are included, but the original, basic car (non-S) fits.

Once you get to 80 with the US, it gets all that 'newfangled electricalonical garbage' and the original intent is befouled. Then you throw on those silly "air damns" and things and destroy the beautiful lines (and gorgeous beeeehind) of the car.

Those cars are considered "SOB". Sorta Old Bugger.

And, just to be clear:

how can you tell which is which?
you have 3-4 at any given time but none of them have complete bodies mounted

But I will caveat that - I am steadfastlty 32V. I have very little interest in the 2V motors. So the best of both worlds, stock, is still an 86.5

But really, the dark secret is I am rarely happy with a stock 928 - I always want to modify it.

Best in 1886 and 1986, respectively, when they had plenty of cocaine in them!

I'm an OB / Pasha addict for sure. Since it came on the market. I think because it looked bonkers than. Like the designers got their inspiration while having an lsd trip. Great stuff (the design, don't know about lsd)

Well, then I'll have to just contain this within the body style. I don't like Pasha, I am not a fan of 220hp, and I like the bigger brakes.

Oh, well that is an 86.5

I did a bit of digging in my archives on "OB" a while back and found that back in 2000, Jay Kempf (Kempf tension tool) and a few others others started using the phrase “Old Buggers” to refer to the early 928s on the PorscheFans email list. This was eventually shortened to “OB”. The definition has always varied slightly but in my opinion, based on 19 years of reading PorscheFans/RennList, OB = 84 and older (16v cars).
