Default Console trim screws?

1982 928...
Hi everyone. I pulled my console for some refurb, and the PO lost almost all of the trim screws (don't know how it was all holding together). Anyway, my console has threaded inserts for very fine machine screws. Parts suppliers seem to only sell self tapping screws for attaching the climate control box and the other plates and trim, but that won't work in my car. Any ideas on where to source them? I can't find a match in the hardware or auto parts store. The threads are usually too far apart to work. Thanks!

If you can figure out the thread, length etc then McMaster.com can send you 50 for cheap. Sometimes partial fastener info is in Pet...B

Question for OB folks: are those threaded inserts OE? 87+ uses self-tapping Philips screws.

Rob Budd at Classic9leather sells are interior trim hardware assortment. It has a variety of items in it and most certainly has the screws you need. All are in the correct matte black finish.

I also use McMaster Carr a lot but you have to know what you want and getting a black finish can be problematic.

Thanks-- The set that Classic9Leathers sells is for later cars. It has the self tapping black screws. Mine uses machine screws that look like they may be yellow zinc plated or something like it. I havent been able to determine the exact size. I think it is M4, but can't determine the twist rate/threading specs. it is finer than what I find at the parts store.

Worf928, I can only assume that the OB cars have consoles like my car...maybe other OB owners?

They should be 3.5 x 10 Phillips head with a small washer.
