Buy cheap and they are crap - you get what you pay for.
Not all clips are equal.
Aren't there two or three "clear" clips as well? Maybe for the trim behind the door handle leather insert.

My unmolested '89 came to me with only white and black clips. I think I bought bags of each way back when as part of some re-gluing efforts on the top edges and the carpet panel. No issues at all through several R&R efforts over the years. It was pretty luxurious having 928 International 30 minutes to two hours away.

Meanwhile...
For other cars/projects I've used owner-supplied generic cheapies from ebay/etc, with very mixed results. I get to judge "results" on those cars only as instant issues, where a clip breaks or doesn't stay put in the door card installing it the first time. Then the panel comes out, breaking more of them even while using the correct tools. A slippery slope! Are all online clips as bad as they are cheap? I don't know and have no way to tell. But I still have plenty of the 928 International-supplied pieces in the spares bin so I have no need to find out. I have the door panel reinforcement plates to install one of these days, along with window motor service, so I'll get to see how the rest of the 30+yo original clips are holding up.

Ok, that might have been somewhere else then. But you need the right combination of black and white ones, and crummy ones aren't worth the powder to blow them to hell.

I have several cars from around the same time period and I can tell you that most of them use exactly the same clips both white and black. 40 yo clips most likely will break , so keeping a good spare bin makes sense for me. I bought some clips 15 years ago in good quality. I even bought som clips for a 911 from a porsche vendor and the clips where the same and from the same manufacturer as the ebay ones . They where just more expensive .

I think I just buy a couple of sets from different ebayers and hope I strike luck with one of them.

That's what I like to see the support of the 928 vendors who go out of their way to make sure our cars stay on the road. Without them we would all be in trouble I can assure you.
Support your 928 specific vendors and not eBay.
928 International, 928 Specialists & 928 Motorsports would all have helped you with the correct high quality parts and yes it may cost you $5 more. But no lets buy from eBay 8>)
I do not see eBay sponsoring Rennlist either.
You get what you pay for!!!!!

The black and white clips are for two different thicknesses of panel. It is not hard to look at the thickness of the panel at a given location and determine if it calls for a black clip or a white one.

The panel itself is a pretty consistent thickness. The white clips have an extra "layer" to allow room for the carpet that wraps around the door card at the bottom edge of the door. Maybe you meant "installed thickness"? If so you would be correct

Yes, thank you for the correction. Installed thickness.

@ROG100 I have spent more than a smal fortune buying parts the last 20y or mostly from Rennlist sponsors (included your business) . Since I live outside the Us shipping is usually very expensive and it is often +/- 100$ or more for the same parts depending on vendor. Some vendors sends a seperate shipping invoice after order is placed for additional charges at rates that makes no sense . And on top of that there is 25% custom fee that is included shipping cost . All well and good as US has the biggest part market for old Porsches especially the front motor watercoolers .
I do also happen to have a "self of shame" with new parts that are totally crap quality and/or poor fitment and therefore basically useless. Having gone through a couple of claims with all the hazzle it is shipping it back and forth . Not to mention the cost involved and the fact that custom fee will not get refunded . I found that it would normaly make no sense to bother even though it stings a fair bit to take a 500$loss for a faulty part.
That beeing said ; most vendors are cool about it and will replace the part if I take the cost and send it back. There are always the ones that choose the silent route and more than once have I thought to myself that they where either blind or they knew that the part was bad shipping it out . But did it anyway as it was going overseas. These are often aftermaket parts and used parts so it is always a gamble.
Still I'm more than happy to support RL sponsors for most , but as with the clips given the total cost I have no problem at all buying them from somwhere else.
I could have probably lived with the premium price if I needed them for one car only. But they are just a "good to have " spare item in time of need for both porsches , Bmw , Audis and even my Lr . Yes I know the black and white are different , but other than that the clips are identical for several car manufactures from the time period .
As it turns out a local Former Audi garage had a bunch of them leftover in storage so I kindly took a couple of hundred of each out of their hands for about 50$.

Thanks and sorry for the thread hijack . I shall now go back again to the read-only-abyss .

If the cap fits wear it my friend. Not once do you mention who you are or where you live - so no one including myself has any clue about you - not even your name. Not once do you mention being overseas which would have made a difference. Sorry but a lot of wasted posts for a few bucks worth of clips 8>).

AliExpress has 100 door panel clips for $23.99. They will fit a Porsche 911, 928, 944 or 968 #823867299. I'm not sure of the quality but for that price you can't go wrong.

AliExpress - Chinese copies with dubious quality.
As I said above support your 928 parts suppliers - no need to buy from me as there are at least 3 other choices

Really? How many times do you want to remove and replace the door panels as they fail. It's your labor. But, it's still labor. Me, I'd rather be driving my car. YMMV

There are some good and some not-so-good clips available. Our trusted suppliers have gone through the effort of sourcing the good ones. I think I bought a couple dozen of each when I first went into a door for something. Almost twenty five years later I still have most of them in my spares locker. Don't know where Mark sourced them way back then, but I like their selection.
