Help, question on adjusting 3 speed auto reverse band.
I am trying to adjust the reverse band on my '78 euro. I have the instructions and am to the point where I have cut a slot in the adjustment bolt.
My problem is that the lock nut seems to be rusted to the bolt. I cannot back off the nut in order to bottom out the bolt before turning back 1 1/2 turns. The instructions I have say not to remove the bolt, is this a suggestion or a warning? If I remove the bolt I can loosen up the nut a lot easier on the bench than on my back under the car.
Thanks in advance.

Another question. As mentioned above the lock nut was stuck on the bolt, I finally got it turning but it would not back off enough allow me to screw the bolt all the way in. So I figured if it is perhaps a 1/4 turn from bottoming I'll back it out 1 1/4 turns... and then experiment with the adjustment after that.
Reverse seems to slip about the same as before so I'm considering screwing in the bolt in 1/4 turn increments to see if things improve. I assume screwing in will tighten up the clutch, is that right?
What are the limits with adjusting this bolt?

I don't know about the limits on the bolt. Have you checked the fluid level yet? Low level will cause it to slip, normally in both forward and reverse. Also , when was the last time you changed filter? When my 82' started to slip in reverse it turned out that the reverse band was falling apart, found when changing filter.
