1978 Continental Orange project
I've been after this guy for about two years now. Finally picked it up today. Looks like it is original Orange under the bad respray. All the interior shows the correct yellow primer then orange. So is this #9 or 10 that has been found?
Excited to have this in the stable. Now to begin the restoration project. Non runner
VIN 9288200848
5 speed LSD supposedly

Orange
Going to try to remove black paint first to see how the orange looks. I'm assuming this does not have clear coat finish. Once I can get interior emptied out I'll post some pics of interior, then off to the engine compartment. Seems as though there are some parts at another location for this too that I need to track down.
Thanks for the feedback.

Great Thanks! Looking forward to learning more about these. I don't know the VIN numbering system to know when mine was built. Its 9288200848 when did the switch from 92881 as first 5 numbers switch to 92882?
"Looks like 6 known cars for now..
9288100039 unknown pasha - Germany
9288100498 black/blue pasha - New York
9288100873 black leather - South Africa
9288101090 black white pasha - Switzerland
9288101222 black/beige pasha - Connecticut
9288200559 black/brown pasha - California
Jim says my production #1441 makes it a December of 1977 build. It also made a stop in Brussels at some point in life. Lots of cool details, original windshield, correct gas cap, steel belly pan, plenty of orange paint if you dig a little."

Get a copy of the special cd set from roger tyson.
It has documentstion in the form of workshop manual supplements, essentially, that paint a picture of features as they were introduced, plus detail on vin assignment. Must have for enthusiasts.

For ROW cars, the number is off by 11. This is because the actual #1 car was set at 9288100011. I am not sure if the US spec cars are likewise off. In any event, your car is a US spec car, number 848. Mine is #834, so my car rolled down the line a short bit before yours.
Jim D and/or Drooman will chime in with more info on this.

Well that makes sense about the VIN. So its #848 in the first year, that's very cool and makes sense.
I had an 87 S4 and really miss it. My wife too comments on why I sold it. She loves the interior in these. So I have been stockpiling parts cars while negotiating with the owner. I have an 81 5speed car with 104k miles it has the Sport seats option. Then I have an automatic 84 with a pretty good interior.
Start with powerwashing it today and then checking paint depth with my paint meter to see if there is any bondo on it. I'll invite my body and paint guy over next week to do an assessment with me.
I also have the option to buy a euro motor from this guy. 300hp is almost what I had with the S4. So the question will be how original do I keep it? Appreciate your thoughts and comments. This is a 2-3 year project I'm sure and i want to do it the right way.

Very, very original.
Seat frames, engine, trans of course. Anything with a registration number on it should be kept and refurbished. Plan to go back to dead bone stock original, or at least keep all the materials and feature stuff so it can stay true to the COA.

Paint gauge will only work on some of the panels but I think this car is past the point to even worth checking that. Just strip it down to metal and start from there. If you pockets are deep enough, go back as close to 100% stock as possible otherwise, just have fun and make it into a restomod. The way I see it, the cost of this project will be more than the value of the car anyways so might as well have some fun with it.

Very cool and welcome to the club! I'm interested to know what the original interior material is...are you planning to get a COA? Know any history to the car?
