You can put stands under the back 'A arm' brackets in front if you're not working on the suspension. DON'T use the 'frame rails' you see under the car. They are just sheet metal and are not 'structural'. DON'T jack the front of the car with the cross brace removed, you can crack the windshield.. To tune the car you need: fuel pressure gages and an A/F meter, ( a color-tune plug helps too.) If it hasn't been run in a while, strip off and clean ALL the fuel lines. start with the injector lines, they are easy to get to and one or two plugged injectors will have you banging your head on the floor...Porsche injectors are NLA, but you can use M.B. injectors with an ending # of ***047.. Once you have it running right, you'll find you have a real monster..You're only dragging 10 Lb per Hp!! 65 MPH and only turning 2200 RPM in 5th!!! I drove mine down to FRENZY last year and later found out I left the coolant cap loose the whole trip. Phila. to D.C. area and back in 90* heat and the car didn't overheat, despite getting stuck on the 'parking lot' they call 'the beltway', taking an hour to cover 14 miles, and cruising at 80+ mph on the trip!! YEEEEHAAAH!!!
Awesome story STRIKEMASTER! This shows the power and reliability of those cars! And the information you told me is also very useful for me, and will do all of it of course. As soon as I get it running I'll post about it.
My father owned 3 of them back when they were new, A Guards Red manual 928, a Ruby Red manual 928S, and an automatic White 928S. My dad kept telling me about the power and torque it gives. He tells me the car really breathes at 2nd and 3rd gear, especially at third he told me. So I will experience a 928 for the first time.
