Update on my 89 S4
Figured this is a good time to take inventory where I am. As soon as I finish the Alfa Romeo GTV and bring to my friend in DFW for paint, I'll swing by Roger and get the 88 S4 engine he has for me as mine is basically junk. My Cup3 wheels went to a local vendor who specializes in European car wheels as he sources them here, I media blast them and he paints them and sends them to buyers in Europe. He will paint them in his facility, then when I get them back new rubber goes on them. Remember when 17 inch wheels was the rage as being like WOW, those are big wheels. As such, tires today for these wheels are really reasonably priced.
I took my Torque Tube to Jones Autowerks here in town for a rebuild and run out check, while there Kathy inquired about some horse trading; their 356 needs some media blasting, so, we'll likely work something out - I don't do barter deals too often as I can't pay bills that way.
Any of you know how I can source Big Red brake kits parts? Some previous owner installed them on my car and I need lines, and some parts to the calipers; seals, pads, lines, hoses, bolts, etc. The rear rotors are 993 rotors, the fronts are absolute rubbish, in the trash they went after failing spectacularly as I disassembled them. Rust sucks.
Any of you find it challenging to source skilled helpers/workers? I do. I get people that show up and say how great they are at this or that, I say great, please make roof structure coupons for that 1970 Challenger roof before we put a new skin on it. I go check up on him and the welder is adjusted way down to a too cold range (I always weld with hot torches), and I get peppered with questions like "How do you want this?" Which translates into 'How do I do this'! Needless to say, I have a short fuse and then this Bubba goes on social media telling everything how I hurt his feelings and I'm the *** hole - but I always have work, and Bubba does not. Oh well. The only standard is top quality, don't cut corners and don't care about costs.
Here's a few pics of semi-recent activity.
Inspiration.
993 Rotors for rear, part of the Big Red kit
Al clean
Gold powdercoated
Have to destroy to take apart then repair
Junk
Shocks still good, blasted and painted
And this is why the car never ran, some highly skilled people couldn't figure out that no fuel = no run.
Lines look to be pretty dated.
Repair work
Blasted, in epoxy and in the near-correct Blue color
Cleaned up ready to go back in.
Still legible. Plastic folks is the key
Front Rotor=junk
Sure, just stick a bolt in, no nut needed

FWIW, there are no nuts on the compressor mounts on my car either, the mounting points are threaded. I assume it's supposed to be that way...
