Default Vertical hood - Possible?

I thought for sure I had seen a 928 with its engine hood vertical. Looked at the hinges and don't see any release. Is this possible?

If possible...how to do it?

Remove the hood.

Hold Vertical.

That is a mercedes thing, not a 928.

Not possible with the stock hinges - not sure why you'd care to anyway...?

Was there an axe chop hole in the hood also?, might've been a fuel issue.

Look closer at the hinges.

You are only going to get the hood up vertical once.

Aha! I was thinking MB...

Would be nice to have more clearance under the hood though.

Thx to all who responded.

Really.. what for? About the only thing that comes to mind is removing the engine?

Taking the hood off completely is not so difficult...

Having worked on dozens of mercedes, I can tell you that their vertical hood option is really really nice. When you are in a shop it doesn't cover the light as you are working. It also gives you more room to access everything without having to scrunch up at the back end of the hood. It would make it much nicer to do the expansion valve as an example.

Without looking at the car, but would removing the front bolts that mount the hinges to the car and loosening the rear ones be of any help? And off course a rope to hang the front of the hood to something high.

Volvos through the mid 90s also had the vertical hood, handy for light, handy for the head, and handy for all of the little things along the firewall that you can get without the vertical hood, but are so much easier with it.

The cars with the hood+ fenders that fold forward vertical, C4 vette, are really nice, you don't have to worry about scratching up the fenders.

I watched some episodes of Wheeler Dealers last night and in one of them, with a Honda 2000 roadster of some sort, I think, the Big Guy said that much of the work he had to do was in the engine compartment, so he manipulated the hood strut out of its recesses on the passenger side (RHD car) and put it into two openings on the other side to hold the hood vertical. Looked like it was designed that way.
